Hello,
First let me start out with saying this. My dog gave birth on Thursday, yes we knew she was pregnant, yes we did lots of reading to get ready for the birth, yes we have a whelping box and yes there is someone home with her all the time and no this was not planed. I just have some questions that I can not seem to find the answer to.
Everyone keeps making a big deal out of the fact that my dog Videl only gave birth to one puppy. One single pup, he is very healthy and the father is smaller than Videl so her puppy is small as well. Is this normal that she only gave birth to one pup? I know she is not pregnant anymore there are no other pups in her she has been checked.
My second question is, how long does the pup have to stay in the whelping box? I have read 3 weeks and I have read 6 weeks. But many sites and books have said by 3 to 3 1/2 weeks house breaking should be started.
