Hey everyone,

Im really worried about my pup, I took him to the vet this afternoon and had him checked over because he keeps leaking mushy poo from his backside and she said he might just be backed up but has a temp, so gave me some anti biotics.
She checked his glands and said they were fine.

Im REALLY quite worried now because its still doing it and I can smell it, its not nice, every time I shower him it just comes back and he hates the water so its very distressing for him.

Anyone got and idea on what this could be and how I can help him?

Give him some canned pumpkin, that will probably get things moving and empty out his belly/bowels. I might back off the food for a meal as well. Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in and help within a day or two - what are the antibiotics for? What did she say is causing his upset tummy?

I dont think Ive seen that over here, would it be possible to give him some bran get some fiber in there?

See Ive just moved recently so he has been feeling a bit awkward about going to the toilet in a new place he has started to but not as much as he used to just yet so I took him for a great big walk and he still didnt go, silly pup.

She just said he had a temp but the anal glands were ok, the antibiotics are called, Metronldazole.

it's LEAKING out like he has no control? Did the vet check to make sure his sphincter is working properly?
Not out of control like its falling out everywhere, Its just gather at his bum hole area, and in his fur it comes off when he shakes or jumps about to much..

She said the muscles were still gripping fine.

It could be. But viruses like Parvo incubate for a while and if you wait for all the symptoms to hit at once, you just drastically reduced your pup's chance for survival.

Did the vet do a fecal check and check for internal worms and parasites?

most any vet should do a parvo test in diarreah in a pup, esp one with a temp. Really it does no harm and then you know if you have other animals in your area that exposure is not a concern.

See its not diahhrea its more just mush no liquid in it, its just like normal poo coming out just not in clump form.

I know what you mean about the parvo test, but I really dont think its that, well I hope not.

I have run a fecal on every animal I have ever taken to the vet with an upset stomach?

What is the vet medicating for if she/he doesnt even know what it is?

I would get the test to know what you are dealing with here.

This bothers me .... sounds like this vet could be questioned . I don't like to give antibotics unless there's a proven infection .

I'll call back again tomorrow and ask for a fecal test or even a blood test, He seems to be alright at the moment still, but I will need to shower him again.

The drugs they she gave him seem to be a general antibiotic really.

?!? The vet didn't even do a fecal?? I got the impression she did a fecal and the antibiotics were for whatever the fecal turned up...
I would NOT take your pup back to this vet... for anything.

It sounds like give the hysterical patient/owner/parent antibiotics to shut them up trick to me. Both human docs and vets do it, and its not a good idea . . . especially since antiboitics can make stomach problems worse. Not to mention resistance issues . . . I'd take the pup to another vet tomorrow if no better, even just the PetSmart vet, and ask for a fecal and a second opinion. A parvo test too, I would say, just to be safe . . . soft and squishy doesn't sound like parvo, but I've seen what it can do. Best to be careful.

There are a lot of different parasites that could be causing his issues (some easily treatable and others more serious). I would absolutely do a fecal -- and find another vet to do it.

My puppy has gotten several bugs and has had a few GI issues himself. I have been very, very grateful to have a vet with whom I have a great relationship (and who knows us so well!). I highly suggest that you find someone like this; in my opinion, it makes a big difference.
