Alright, this is getting really frustrating... Our dog Brutus, is now 7 months old. We've been to a Rhodesian Ridgeback Vet specialist. Had him tested for U.T.I's and even wondered if we could get him neutered to fix the problem, but he's still about a month shy of being "ready" to be fixed.

Here's the problem. We got Brute a large kennel for him, as he's a big dog. He loves his kennel. It's near our bed and he loves being able to sleep near us. No big deal. He's got a blanket over his kennel which covers the top and two sides. He's got his own hide-away so to speak, he takes his bones, chews and any toy he can find there and plays when he feels like not being about people. Alright, i can deal with that.

We are away for maybe six hours during the day. He's already house-trained. So to speak. When we got the kennel, we wanted to start him off with the basic fluff bedding so he could get used to it, which was a 30$ bed pad... He Piddled ALL over it. I mean, not while we were away. He'd hold it. When we got home, or i got home, His schedule was. 7am breakfast and water after piddle and potty. come home at about 5-6ish and he'd go out. Run around and have a good time until about 7, when he'd come in, get some water and eat at 7:30pm. We had a great time with that schedule. We still keep it. But the vet says that just like people, some dogs have a hard time with puberty.

I will take him out. We'll come in. He's gotten the "sit" "down" "Stay" at all doors so he doesn't go running out or in when he's not supposed to. he does it. Comes in and proceeds to walk into his kennel.. and Urinate. I don't mean, a few drops, it's like he's got a full bladder or was saving it. I figured he might have a U.T.I, because i suffer with them, and I've seen the horrible, "but I've just gone, I have to go again?!" things... we took him in, they did some tests. Found his only problem was ear mites and some rough spots on his fur that we've been putting cream on. If he has to go out, he will walk to the door. Tap the door knob with his nose and look at me. So we take him out. In his kennel. He doesn't make a sound when he's i guess "marking"

I don't know what to do. The vet suggested taking out the bedding, washing it, and leaving it out for awhile and seeing if he continues. So, we took it out for 30 days, he slept on the plastic and chewed his bone like nothing ever happened. He did not urinate at ALL for those thirty days. As soon as the vet says "he's most likely over it, give it a try and put it back in." He Urinates on it until he's soaked it completely. We ration his water so that he doesn't get any liquids after 8pm unless we take him for a run. Which works great and he has no night-time issues. His water is only down at certain times in the daily schedule. it's not available all the time. He does get adequate water. What i don't understand, some said he was marking. He refuses to go back into his kennel after he's done his urinating, which makes me think he's not marking.

What do i do? I would keep the bedding out of there, But i know that some dogs are allergic to Plastic. I also know he's got some rub spots on his paws where he's been rubbing his paws raw on the plastic. We've been using Corona cream on it, and it's been working wonderfully. I want him to stop urinating in his kennel. But at the same time, I want him to be able to sleep comfortably. What should i do? I need some serious doggy help.

He may actually be marking, but unlike marking a tree outside, he then has to deal with the urine. He wouldn't be thinking that far ahead when he's in the process though. LOL
You seem to be doing everything right. Perhaps what you could try is, and I know this sounds gross, take the pad out...wash it...wait for him to pee somewhere outside and then go 'dip' the pad in the pee. Don't try to soak it up, just get a few drops on it. Then let it dry and put it back in. He'll be able to smell his pee on it then. IF he is marking, that might stop him (since he's now succeeded in making his home smell like him).
Plus with just a few drops it shouldn't stink to us humans either.

It's just an idea. Other than that, all I can think of to suggest is to either make sure you take him out more often then you are right now and keep him on a leash and wait for him to pee. Try to empty out that bladder as best you can. Or remove the pad all together.

Just an after thought...have you tried putting a different type of padding in the crate? Does he pee on that? He may not like the pad you have for him.

Well, we've also tried a large fluff filled blanket that is way too hot for us and folded it and put it in for him. Still the same thing. I'll see if i can get the slight smell to work. I would hate to have to make him sleep on the plastic, but if worst comes to worst i guess ill see if that's a permanent fix. Thanks for the input.

We were told to get the extra large kennel. It was said to be the great dane / mastiff / large breed kennel. When he's laying down in it on his side, how he's normally laying, he's got maybe a foot of extra space. Could the extra size be what's causing it?

just got the dimensions it's 37'' x 54'' x 45'' recommended weight for something 110 pounds

The next largest cage was too small for him to safely, at least what pets mart suggested against.. safely being in.

Is he peeing all over it? Or in spots?

Can you change the type of bedding? Our dogs have flannel-like blankets in their crates, but they don't sleep in them nearly as much as they did when they were puppies. I can't remember the last time they slept in them, actually, and one has actually 'graduated' from cratedom, lol.

The blankets are simple ones, like from Petsmart or Walmart... thin, but warm and cuddly enough.

I would try different bedding since this seems to "cause" his problem.
Maybe a rubber or foam mat... instead of a thick blanket. If he still pees in there, just let him sleep on the plastic for a while. I also don't think he is "marking" and pee smell on a pillow might make matters worse.

Good Luck.

Wrigley has no bedding and I don't feel 'bad' for him--that's what he gets for chewing up his bed-

I would take out all bedding and if you feel that he is getting rubs or something get something like this:http://www.primopads.com/

That way they are waterproof ...they same hard and stiff but I hear they help with rubbing and problems on bare plastic flooring.

Yeah I thought about that before I posted it. I just figured since he's already peeing on it, it would do any harm to try it. Either way it's gonna have pee on it. LOL

The kennel sounds too big for him at this time in his life. See if you can find something to fill the back part with so you take away that extra foot of space while he is still growing.

I would take the blankets out completely and do a bleach of the whole kennel to rid it of any urine smell.

It definitely doesn't sound like marking, just sounds like he's confused for some reason. How often does he have accidents in the house that are NOT in his crate?
