Bella, a 16wk old rescued mix and weighs about 40pds. On two occaions demonstrated a humping behavior. She was spayed at about 10wks, she in enrolled in a obediance class and is doing well, I walk her usually 2 daily. I do take her to work with me on a mini golf course and she demonstrates this behavoir when i am working with customers for a long period of time.(usually with larger groups) The behavior is usually precusored by pawing and bitting on cloths and arms tring to drag me down, and then bam!, she is "attacking" my leg. I put her in a submissive down postion after this happens, and while she stops the "attacking" she continues to paw and bite.

My class is not till wednesday and I was hopeing for some other advice since I will have a few other large groups coming in today and tomorrow....

Yup. Dominance. She'll probably grow out of it, but don't reward her behaviour by paying any attention to it - good or bad.

Just walk away quietly, no speaking, no touching, and no eye contact. She'll learn that you are the boss, not her, if you do that. Don't put her into a submissive down - submission is acheived by the way you behave, not by forcing her into a position that is not natural to her.

If you are confidently, quietly the leader, and don't inadvertently reward her by paying attention to her (and putting her in a `down' is giving her your attention) she'll soon stop.

Just wondering about the submissive down you are talking about.

I was told by my breeder that during playtime with my pup to just roll her over on her back occasionally and hold her down for a matter of seconds and look directly into her eyes. When she turns her head away she is displaying submission.

I have tried this when she starts to really jump and get too pushy with me and it seems to settle her down .

Is this the one you are speaking of?

Thanks Elly
