I need help/advice. I have two female Boxers. Mother and Daughter. we've had absolutely no problem with mom boxer til the little one came around. NOw the Pup is 3months old and both are distroying my garden, during the night when no supervision is around. They are both outside dogs, and do nothing wrong during the day while everyone is away, but come nighttime, they begin their mischief. At first, I thought it was Mother Boxer, but recently noticed while i got up one night to get a drink of water, that daughter boxer was on top of a planter chewing on a new tree we had just planted. this is getting outta hand, and i dont know what to do. we have tried tying her up, but it made no difference. any advice will truly be grateful.. :(

I'm having a similar problem with my dogs (although I do not keep them outside at night). It is driving DH nuts as his vegetable garden is precious to him. We have tried those short fences tha are just staked intot he ground but they either jump over them or go through them......for some reason it is their favorite part of the yard because they have obstavles to run through and such. You'd think my dogs were vegeterians with the amount of plants that they eat.

A very wise old man once told me while I was young and had two children that you can't raise kids , dogs and a garden and for the most part I found that to be true. I have my yard divided and the dogs are not allowed into the part of my yard that is nicely planted. They have their own part of the yard.

I BELIEVE IT IS JUST SUPPOSED TO STARTLE AND DISTRACT THEM. I HAVE NEVER DONE IT, SO I AM NOT SURE IF IT WORKS.

my dog used to do the same thing when he was a puppy. we read in some books and asked some vets and came to the conlusion that everytime he did it, it should be made clear that he's done something wrong. take your puppy to a spot spoilt be him. make him look at the spot and scold him. he'll get the point soon enough

Scolding a dog for things he did in the past is NOT going to teach him anything, except that he should fear you.

This is why they are continuing to destroy your garden.

I never kept Shippo in the yard alone when he was a pup, because I knew he could get into things, and I wouldn't be around to teach him not to be destructive.

Please do NOT take your pup or dog to the point of damage and scold them. It will not work, what it will do is confuse them, scare them, and they won't understand the "scolding" anyway.

It sounds to me your pup and possibly the adult dog have way to much time on their hands, I mean paws. The best way to control these unwanted behaviors is to prevent it from the start. It will take work on your part though. ;)

Sounds to me as if your dogs need more mental and physcial excercise.

It is really dangerous to keep your dogs outside where they cannot be supervised. They could get poisened, teased by neighbourhood kids, stolen, etc.

Why are they not allowed inside?

Is your bitch spayed? She could possibly be impregnated.

my puppy does this ..sort of . Although its durning the day. Normally when shes out on her runner I can watch her from the kitchen, if I see her digging I just call out the window in the "your doing something bad voice". She normally stops. If she doesnt she comes in.

I did see a show once on the garden channel, it was about keeping dogs out of certain areas of the yard and about digging. This lady said to make borders around garden areas, wether it be stones bricks, wood, and train your dog not to go over these. Thats what I did, it works wonders, especially if shes walking around the yard not on her runner, make sure you keep tomatoe plants far away from them b.c they can be poisonus.

about the digging, she said make a pile of dirt in a spot you dont mind, bury a bone or cookie in it (will have to do this a few times), so they learn to dig in this spot. my puppy will still occasionally dig were shes not supposed to :lol-sign: but she is getting better.

i have heard that you can give them a sand pit.

put a sand pit in a area that they are allowed in and hide treats in it. supervise them at night if you have to. if they destroy somewhere not in the sand pit, correct and put them in the sand pit. they will dig and have fun in the place you allow them to. plus you are giving the dog freedom to be a dog.

as long as they no thats the only place they can behave like that
