Hello all,

I have a Shepard/Rottie mix and she coat is sometimes very flakey. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what I can do for this.. She is not scratching or affected by it.. I do brush her.. But just wondering on any suggestions..
Thanks

What type of food is your pup on? Does the flaking get severe ever? There is a type of skin mite that actually looks like dandruff, but it's an actual mite and is commonly found on puppies. Sometimes the fuzzy puppy coat that is present before an adult coat starts to grow in can get a little dry. I would suggest you feed a very hight quality food along with some fish body oil to improve his skin/coat condition...

Hello,
Thank you so much for responding.. Her coat never gets bad it just basically looks like a light flake, but if you wipe it off it goes away..

She is eating IAMs Chicken and Rice dry and wet food.

Healthy skin and coat should not flake at all.

I have a feeling that your problem lies with the food you are feeding. I would recommend you consider switching to a quality dog food. I think you will be amazed at what it will do for your dog's overall long term health and not to mention coat!

Or, if you are looking to save money, you could always consider Costco's Kirkland brand of dog food which is much better quality than Iams.

You should also visit www.dogfoodproject.com to educate yourself on what makes a dog food a quality one.

Good luck with whatever you choose. :)
