One of my friends is getting her 1st dog. She decided on a pug a LOOONG time ago and her room is pretty much pug central, books, posters, EVREYTHING. She really wants a puppy, and all the pug rescues never have any, so we are currently breeder searching (we're in Miami). I dont know much about these adorable lil guys, but since im going to be an aunty soon, anybody who knows about them, please post :) and also, if you know any good breeders post that info 2

any info would be great,
Fransheska

ps: Shes a very loving person, who loves dogs, but shes also planning on dressing that lil girl up and bringing it to the mall so if u know any good place to order doggy dress up clothes and designer leashes/collars/dresses ect..
She also wants to know where she can get a doggy tiara.. lol dont ask.
She already bought the dog an "armoir" with lil tiny hangers and drawers to keep his belongings.. lol shes crazy :p

I had a pug for 13 years. They are absolutely the sweetest natured little creatures. I'm partial to black pugs. That's what I had. I really wanted a fawn pug when I was looking for one, but we ended up with black. I liked his personality and disposition better than the fawn ones we encountered, but I don't know if it had anything to do with his color. I also liked that he was a little more unique than the fawns. If I ever get another pug, I will be looking for a black one this time.
They cannot be left outside. They can't take the heat at all. Mine was 25 pounds, full grown, so he grew a little big to be taken around in a designer carrier, if that's what your friend is thinking about. I could pick him up and carry him anytime I needed to, but he was just a little heavy for it to be comfortable for him to be carried around like some of the smaller toy dogs.

There are lots of resources online to order dog clothings, goggles, sun glasses, shoes, yup...even tiaras!
You can also ask at pet supply stores if they can order them in.
Before I got a dog, I used to tsk tsk people who dressed their poor pups up in clothing.
Now....you guessed it. Im an offender.
Chili has a little hawaian shirt that is ready for his first luau party on Saturday.
Ive also ordered a little camoflage t-shirt.
He has a cool little sun hat with peace signs all over it.
Horrible, isnt it? lol

I was just wondering if you tried pet finder for pugs? I noticed it says you are from Miami so I did a search and found these pugs, perhaps she would be interested in having one of these dogs?

Cliff, good with kids and cats, hourstrained, neutered

Buddy

Harley, house trained, neutered, has lived with kids, cats and other dogs

There are other dogs that are just outside of Miami, but these are the ones listed close by. I hope she would consider it.

One other thing about Pugs that I forgot in my first post. At that time, I was remembering how sweet, loveable and cute they are. I failed to mention that they are HEAVY shedders. I don't know if that makes any difference or not, but don't let their short fur fool you!!

I had a Pug, they're great little dogs. My girl was extremely active, and quite mischevious lol, but she was a lot of fun. She was very easy to housebreak.

Overall, they're easy to care for dogs, and aren't high-maintainence. But it's important to clean the wrinkles in their faces.

We have a pug, he's 5 yrs old. He's very energetic, loves to wrestle with our GSD, plays tug with him, runs around with him outside etc. He weighs about 22 lbs but he's totally cut- not fat like a lot of pugs- very fit looking. He sheds a LOT- if you pick him up you have little pug fur on you, even with brushing and a raw diet. I will say, he's not the sharpest tool in the shed. He's bright in his own little way but he's not one to learn things quickly. He knows the basics for us, sit, stay, and "go to bed" will send him to his crate, and he's housebroken. He's very food driven so that has helped me work with him in the last year and get him more up to speed as we trained our GSD. Now at dinner time I can have him, Gunnar, and our old dog Midnite all sit and stay with their dinner bowls in front of them, and they won't move until I say they can. He's a wonderful companion. He'll sit at my feet all day when I'm here working, and he loves to be on your lap. He has a TON of personality, and we really enjoy him. I know that a lot of pugs have issues, but we've been lucky so far with Bruzer. I think if you keep their weight down, and give them plenty of exercise, you can avoid a lot of the issues you see with the ones who are overweight, with hip, back, and breathing problems. I agree that they are not good in the hot weather. He regulates himself somewhat, laying in the shade and drinking plenty of water when he's hot, but you still have to keep an eye on him.

If your friend is looking for a reputable breeder, definitely contact the 2 Pug Clubs of Florida and ask for breeder referals. If the breeder is in good standing with the breed club, they are most likely a great breeder. Make sure she asks all of the necessary questions, especially regarding elbows & respiratory health of the breeding dogs.
