Well as some of you may have read in the training forums I have been having trouble with kieran, my 13 month old American Bulldog. We have been training, using the advice of some other forum members, and it is going great. He always has listened pretty well, it was his agression that worried me.

Well 2 nights ago, there were 30 car windows smashed on our street and the two streets going off of it, as well as 4 houses broken into 1 on our street and the other 3 spread throughout the town. Well I was laying in bed, hey i get up early, im in bed by 9, and i had kierans crate in my bedroom. I was half asleep and he starts wimpering. I told him to hush up and he kept wineing..So now im awake. And just starts going beserk. Now when someone comes to the door, he gets excited. he will jump around and if hes in his cage, like when my little sisters or brothers come to visit, then he will push on the cage door to get out. But he was just going crazy! Like growling and nashing his teeth. So i got up, he calmed down, but i could tell her was agitated. Then i heard it, someone was walking around downstairs. I opened the cage and he came out and stood next to me, hair on end. I told my fiancee to get in the closet and call the police, and i just Yelled KIERAN GET HIM! He ****ing booked through the house and out the back door. I ran out the front door. Theres really only two ways to go from the back yard and thats out the front yard. I open the front door and hes sitting at the front of the yard going crazy. I yelled to him and he came back. He stopped to look a few times, but he came back to me. I opened the door and he went right in and walked up stairs. Stopped to nuzzle my fiancee for a few moments and then right into his cage to lay down. The police just left a little bit ago, still no leads into who is doing this **** but whatever.

Sorry for the long story but this is a huge advance for him in his training. I have close to 15 grand in electronics downstairs not including our laptops in the office, as well as the safe. Plus all my customers computers, testing equipment, and my tools and climbing gear for work. I could have lost all of that if not for him. He new the difference between someone i had invited and someone invading my house, he didnt leave the yard when he was after someone and he came back to me when called.

Sorry im just really happy right now.

you should be very proud of your boy he reacted appropriately to a threatening situation but still came back to you when you called to him. See all your work in training paid off =)

thats really good that he can recognize an intruder! :)

Its sort of comforting to have a dog that will be that bold for you eh!

Its also a good thing that the burglar ran or you'd have a potential law suit, stupid law to me (on your property, your liable).

Thats really really scary too!! I hope the police catch them!! EEK! i'm glad all of you guys are ok!!

Yay Kieran

Yeah not a law, but still would end up with a lawsuit. Good thing is, most cases like that dont even make it to court anymore.

Where are you from?

I'll check in my Criminal Code tomorrow, I'm sure its somewhere in there..

and about the courts is so true!

lol I think i would have done the same thing though lol I dunno how brave Riot would be with someone like that though, I'm sure he'd make a growling, snarling scene if he saw someone in the dark, I dunno if he'd attack though.
I KNOW if they ran he'd give chase lol (he does that to me ALL too much)

Police foundations? Is that like learning the basics?

I took there classes in highschool, and had planned on becoming a cop. I worked as a fiber tech for verizon for a long while before taking a job as a fibertech for a large campus. I missed the exam for County Sheriff and Local PD by 1 week and now have approx. a 3-4 year wait, and then on top of that i have to wait to be assinged. So now my only options are to stay where I am and wait it out or to take a job as a Federal Border Agent. Which i am in the process or doing.

Good luck and i will talk with them tomarrow.

Police Foundation is a 2-3yr College program that basically teaches the "foundation" of all police work. So it starts out broad in first year and then gets more specific.

I have been told its almost the same courses when you are shipped out to the Police College for it. People who have taken the Police Foundations course are must more "prepared" then those who haven't and made it to the Police College.

Its definately a LOT of obstacles to over come before you make it onto the force. (PATI testing etc) Which drives me more i think. I love a challenge :)

http://www.applicanttesting.com/qualifications.htm

Thats a website I found on our procedures and steps to becoming an officer.
i'd LOVE to get onto the Mountain Unit in TO or the K9 unit locally.
