My oh My!!! My daughter lives in a rural area and seems to have more excitement than us city folk! Alittle over a week ago she noticed that the neighbors 2 GSD seemed to be abandoned. They were wandering and getting into the trash looking for food. My daughter being the animal lover she is took the dogs home and put them back into the yard and fed them. She said the house looked abandoned and she peeked in the windows and saw that it was empty. She didn't know what to do because she knew if she called Animal control they would put these dogs to sleep as it is a kill shelter. She tried to get GSD rescue to return her calls but no luck. So she's been feeding them and caring for them and trying to locate the owner. Well this morning she saw someone at the house and went over there and it was the landlord looking for the tenants. He said he was there to evict them but since they were gone that saved him the trouble. He was going to call Animal Control to come and get the dogs but my daughter talked him into letting her take them. She was able to get names from the landlord and reached the mother of the dog owner. She wouldn't give any information as to how to get ahold of the dog owner but told my daughter to do whatever she likes with the dogs that nobody wants them.
These are really beautiful dogs, definitely purebreds. Well now my daughter, who already owns 3 Schnauzers has 2 GSD that she is at a loss as to what to do with because there is a another twist to the story. She's pretty sure the female is pregnant. She's taking her to the Vet today to find out for sure.
What is with these people that just leave their dogs to fend for themselves? :(

Poor dogs. Your daughter did great.

I would urge her to keep calling rescues, or contact them online (you can probably do that for her). One of them will contact her eventually... Keep us posted about the pregnancy!

Your daughter did a wonderful thing! I don't understand people either. Another thing that bothers me is people that get themselves a dog then they tie them in the back yard, and the only socialization you see is them walking out to give them food...I agree, I would try again with a GSD rescue and hopefully something can happen.

Well the Vet said she is about 3 weeks along. My daughter is pretty stressed out. She doesn't want puppies but now she is obligated. She thinks she's found someone to take the male though.

that is simply amazing, someone would dump them off like that. I would wonder if she could post an ad somewhere advertising the information? I know there are rescues or other people, puppy nurses who do come to help in this type of situation.

Still no word from GSD rescue. She's really afraid she'll get stuck with all the puppies and have to worry about finding homes for everyone. :(

she needs first off to take mom to the vet and make sure she is in good health..and hopefully worm free. Then start feeding an adaquate diet for a pg dog. Since she has her..she can make the experience a good one for the mom and she won't be sorry. Homes are hard to find but not impossible..just start posting everywhere and anywhere you can stick a pic of Mom and the upcoming brood and pray for a small litter. She must not give the puppies away for that can be dangerous..i charged 35 dollars that replaced what i had out on the vaccines and kept the people that would have hurt the puppies away. I also had follow up calls to make sure all was fine in their new home.

This happens so often in the Country, my brother went through a similar situation with people in his area with a female that kept getting pregnant and my brother found the bag full of puppies in the woods...he often wondered what happened to those litters...now he knows. He did call animal control, but, they didn't do anything about it. Anyhow, my brother ended up keeping the dog.

Your daugther is a Saint:) What a noble thing to do for those poor dogs. Hopefully she can care for the pregnant Shepherd and pups.

What we have done in the past at the Vet clinic I worked at...when there was a special case such as this we took up collection to help pay for medical expenses at the clinic. We found most people love a sad story and are more than willing to donate dog food, money...one person even funded the money for a local dog that was shot in the head and left tied to a tree. The surgery involved removing the bullet..the dog is still alive and doing fine.

Perhaps if she could call the mother of the evil tenants back and find out if the bitch was vaccinated. It would be a good idea to discuss this with her Vet as the pups need to get antibodies from thier mom. Put the female on a good quality all life stage dog food.

Here is an article for you to pass on: Scroll down for care of the pregnant dog

She has been to the Vet and is in very good condition. I may have to help out with this one as my daughter is pregnant herself and due in April. Puppies can be a bit time consuming and alot of work.

This is so sad !!! Kudos to your daugther. Chances are these are an inter breeding ..... hopefully a rescue will step in....Puppies require at least one hour a day per pup! That for 8 weeks really add up plus the vet costs. I figured ( back when ) each litter cost at least $1000. ....
