Audubon is headed to the vet in the morning to see the doctor. I noticed a couple months ago that she was laying on top of the air conditioner vent a lot, something she's never done in all of her 8 years. I figured she was hot, as the temps were starting to rise here, and was just cooling off. But she started coughing every now and then, and at first I didn't recognize it as being a problem because it was more of a 'hack' like a hair in her throat.
Within the last couple weeks, I noticed that she practically lives on top of that air conditioner vent, sucking in the cold air. Within the last week, her coughing has gotten very, very bad. She coughs and hacks all the time, to the point that she makes herself throw up. She pants, even when the room is freezing, she's very restless at night, and I've noticed within the last few days that she isn't handling exercise nearly as good as she was even a few months ago. She's panting severely even after I throw the ball only once. Just awhile back, she could go on for an hour with no problem.
So anyways, we're headed to the vet in the morning to see what's going on. Mom's other boston terrier, who passed away 2 years ago, exhibited every single one of these signs, and was diagnosed with COPD. He was around her age as well (8) when he was first diagnosed with it, and died around 3-4 years after the diagnosis. It was a very brutal, progressive disease to watch an animal go thru. I really, really pray that is not what she has. But the signs don't look good.
