crate, thats the word i was looking for. thanks. all the web sites i've been reading about potty training shih tzu's says consistence is the key, and to start from the first day you bring them home.
Consistency is the key! The easiest way to house train a dog is not to let it happen in the first place (which hardly ever happens realisticly)
I didn't have any harder of a problem house training either ST compared to any other breed of dog. Carly's 8mo and 'potty trained', but maybe its because I have her on a schedual (very important) and don't give her a chance to let it happen in the house.
Crate training is great because dogs naturally try not to soil in their den, to keep it clean. If you would like more specific info on crate training (or Shih Tzu's
) feel free to pm me! Restrict the area the puppy can roam in freely if you can't be their to supervise (I keep Maddie and Carly in the kitchen when I'm not home; if you're only gone for a little bit you can crate him/her)
Make a routine and stick to it. Include feeding times (and quantities), outside potty breaks, play ect. Keep in mind how old the puppy is and how long the puppy can physically hold it because its not long in the begining!
For an easy way out you can borrow Maddie, who has practically trained Carly herself (instead of me) but unfortunatly I would have to go with Maddie, I'd miss her too much
