I have taught Morgan a marching band trick.

The command is: "Which foot do you step off with?"
He will respond by sitting down and holding up his left front paw.

I'm so proud of my band puppy. :D :rofl1:

Shame I didn't teach him that BEFORE band camp...

Anybody else have some seriously nerdy dog tricks???

My JRT opens books, turns pages then reads. What makes it nerdy is that its usually a text book as it has to be big and heavy.

eeee JRT studying conceptual physics.....

That is COOL! I bet your fellow band people would LOVE to see him do that!! hahahaha

I don't know how "nerdy" it is...........but this is VERY useful! When I let Orson in the back door I tell him to wipe his feet and HE DOES! He runs back and forth on our rug in the laundry room...........then he stops abruptly and goes in a couple circles. If he attempts to take off before I think they are clean, I say "WIPE THEM GOOD" and he will act like he is digging the rug to get his front paws good :D

That is neat! I love the pic!
I think you have me beat. ;) Clearly, your dog is smarter than mine. I mean... LOOK at all those notes and formulas. I'm lucky Morgan can tell his left foot from his right. :p

So fun!

Oooooo, that IS useful! How did you teach him that? I seriously need to start Morgan on that one...

He's pretty good at wiping his paws on the cat... though I probably shouldn't encourage that. :lol-sign:

Our back door is through the laundry room. The laundry also has a door that closes it off from the rest of the house.

So anyway, I always made sure the laundry room door was closed before I let him in the back door. I would walk him back and forth on the rug (it's a long runner type rug) saying "let's wipe your feet"

I did this for about a week or more. Then I tested it out by himself just letting him in and saying "let's wipe your feet" but not walking with him.

HE DID IT! Woot! LOL.............now the part where he "digs" at the rug to wipe his front paws was ALL HIM........I didn't "teach" that part, he just did it one day when I made him come back to redo it. Made me laugh out loud, which in turn made him very happy :D

So now you must tell us how you taught Morgan the band trick!

Hmmmm... our back door enters straight into the main room of our house... I'll have to be creative with teaching Morgan to wipe his paws...

As for the band trick, I taught it in a similar way to teaching a "shake hands" trick. He already knows to shake hands with his right paw only. (It's only polite, you know.) So I did the same thing, but changed the command to "Which foot?", held out my hand, but I only accepted his left paw for that. Gradually, I stopped reaching out for his paw and just gave him the "Which foot" command. Once he got more consistent with that, I stretched the command into the whole question "Which foot to you step off with?"

I hope that made sense... I am a little tired right now. :p If this turns out to be a paragraph of just gibberish, please let me know and I will try again tomorrow!

Paco knows "get dressed" where, if you hold up his collar or a shirt, he'll stick his head through and help put his own legs through the holes.

Not nerdy by itself but the concept of dressing your dog I think should count for some amount of nerdiness...

Cute tricks everyone!!! My pup is 9 weeks old and hasn't learned any nerdy tricks yet. Hopefully I'll be able to contribute to this thread in the future!
