PLEASE tell me I'm not the only person who frothed for this game to be released, and am enthralled with it.
If you've never heard of it or its predecessor, Portal is a first-person shooter video game based on an engine used in Half-Life 2, another popular FPS (it also runs in the same place and timeline, but is it's own story).
The game is simple. Chell, your character, wakes up in a pod in a place called Aperture Science. She is put through a series of tests by someone called GlaDOS, who we later find out is an AI robot running the facility. Your only weapon is a gun that is capable of firing two different-coloured portals, which move you from place to place in all sorts of neat ways, using propulsion, momentum and other physics goodness.
The first game pits you off against her at the end, destroying her, but then you are carried away by some robot! OMG!
And thus the sequel begins. I just beat Portal 2 for the first time (yes, the first time) last night, and holy crap it's amazing. They improved on the original on all aspects, making a longer game, deeper, richer storyline, and introduced a few new characters without it seeming like overkill.
Both games are superbly written and have received critical acclaim for some of the best scripts ever written in the video game industry. They're both hilarious and clever. There is an ending credits song sung by GlaDOS at the end of each game; the first game's song, Still Alive, also received critical acclaim; the second game's song isn't quite as good, but it's hard to beat the epic of Still Alive, the second song is still stellar and fun.
ANYWAYS. Anyone played it? If anyone has it on Steam, we can rock the co-op.
