Curly coated and wire haired breeds shed the least. Breeds with really short hair dont shed too much either. It depends on what you're willing to put up with. The family pug sheds a TON while the pit bull sheds and we dont even notice it.

dogs that dont shed. well this is a little bit of a misconception. poodles, bichons, schnauzers, malteses, etc shed into their coat, meaning the hair just matts, instead of shedding out, it sheds in, so to speak. so while you wont have much of a problem with the hair everywhere, you will have to brush any of these dogs daily, as it takes maybe a day for matts to form on dogs like this.

and to correct, short haired breeds shed a lot.

Some of them probably do. I am speaking from experience when I say my pit bull doesn't shed much. Yes, he sheds, but not nearly as much as a pug, german shepherd, rottweiler, chow, etc. Its all in what you are personally willing to put up with. My family has a pug that has fur coming out in clumps when she sheds and my pitty doesn't. Her undercoat is WAY denser.

Not true! Dalmations are one of the worst shedding breed I know of!

The rough and broken coated JRTs are low shedding. The smooths are evil! And the hairy don't require much grooming

I should have been more specific. A LOT of short coated breeds dont shed much COMPARED to some other breeds. It depends on your description of "low shedding" is. To me, a lot of shorter coated breeds are low shedding compared to breeds with dense undercoats. I have had a chow and a min pin before... the min pin is low shedding compared to the chow. Thats how I see it.

It has to do with a dogs undercoat.

"low shedding" is about opinions, not facts.

Medium shedding might be a better descriptor of the shorter coated breeds since there are other breeds that shed even less.

Soft-Coated Wheaten Terriers. :)

I've yet to find visible hair anywhere except a brush. Of course, they have to be groomed...

any of the hairless breeds dont shed at all...
cresteds are nice because they are LOW shedding (even the powderpuffs) and as long as your willing to comb dont need professional grooming...
