My brother has a 6 yr. old German Shephard, and he might have to be put down very soon.
I posted before about him, just wanting some advice about natural remedies for arthritis. His vet has been trying to treat him for arthritis for the past couple years, and as it turns out he doesnt have it. He has some sort of bone infection, they get the results in a week.
Saturday night his leg swelled up to 4x's the normal size, so they took him to the Emer. Vet. They recommended putting him down immediately, but my brother wanted to take him to their regular vet first. They want to at least try to treat the infection if possible, b/c they feel they havent had a chance to try.
There are SOO many "IF's" to this story. IF they had just gotten x-rays done earlier, it MIGHT'VE helped. They didnt think the x-rays would show anything, b/c their vet thought for sure it was just arthritis.
I take care of Zeus while they are on vacation/out of town, or any other reason, so he is almost like my 2nd dog. He's trained in Sheutzand (sp?), and just a great dog with a great temperment. I picked him up from the vets just last week and he was SOO happy to see his Aunt Amy. I had 100 lb. GS trying to hug me
Im just really sad now, I wish there was something I could do. I dont want him to be PTS, b/c hes so young, but if hes in pain and not getting better, its selfish of me to want to keep him around.
He was purchased at 6 months from someone who couldnt keep him anymore...and he has "papers", but my brother never met the breeders, etc. I dont know if bone infections are something that is hereditary, so I cant say its the breeders fault for not testing. Who knows maybe they did....
