Hey everyone!

Well, Midnite is definately starting this year off with a bang! First the surgery to have that mast cell tumor removed. Then having to go back three times to have fluid drained, sutures taken out and then again since the vet tech left one suture in! And now she has an ear infection!

Last week I noticed she had a lot of ear wax in her right ear so I cleaned it out with some white vinegar diluted with warm water. Then yesterday I checked her ear and it looked a lot cleaner. Well early this morning (5AM to be exact) I'm woken up to Midnite whimpering. Turn on the light and there is this fluid draining out of her ear! Bring her into the living room and clean her out ear out with the diluted vinegar. Poor girl yelped in pain!

I cleaned her ear again tonight will some diluted perioxide. She's been shaking her head a lot and once in a while she'll tilt her head to the side. There's now a nasty smell coming from that ear too!

Tomorrow I'm calling her vet and hopefully we can get an appointment for tomorrow afternoon otherwise I'll have to bring her Wedsnesday since my classes don't end until 5PM on Tuesday. If he can't see her until Weds. hopefully he can suggest something better to clean her ear with so she can be a little more comfortable. Even though she's not showing pain I could just imagine how uncomfortable it is!

I feel bad for my poor girl! Two surgeries in the past five months and now this! Old age stinks! :(

I hope she feels better soon. Let us know what happens at the vet.

Thanks you guys!

Yesterday I was able to get an appointment at the vet's office but not with her usual vet since he was in surgery all day. She has a bacteria infection for sure! :( She got a good flushing and some meds. Some baytril drops, baytril tabs and this cleanser that I have to clean her ears out with once a week and I could use it regularly.

She was trying to bother with her ear yesterday so I put her E-collar on. Today while she ate breakfast I took it off and we've been watching her like a hawk, but thankfully she hasn't bothered with it. I'm going to continue to put it on at night for a few more nights since I don't quite trust her yet.

She'll have to go for a recheck in ten days. Keeping fingers and paws crossed! :)

Oh, ear infections are NOOO fun. I am sorry. She sure has had a bumpy ride. I hope she's on the mend soon.

Be careful with using peroxide in the ears, it can really dry out and aggrivate the sensitive tissue in the ear canal. Sometimes that itself aggrivates the infection.

I am very glad she is heading the right way. Does it look any better yet?

Thanks!

Yeah I know peroxide isn't the best thing but like always I'm unprepared and that was the most mild thing I had in the house. I'm going to always have this stuff (can't remember the name) that the vet gave me in the house.

Her ear looks a lot better. Its not red anymore and the smell isn't as bad. We've got an appointment for next Friday. She's taking all of her meds like a little trooper. :)

In future if you get stuck, warm soapy water would be preferable to any dilution of peroxide for washing out the ear. Also be careful not to fiddle down the ear canal with anything abrasive (that includes cotton wool) in cases like these because of the damage it does to the fragile skin lining the canal.
