i thought she was just getting stubborn. Taking advantage of the fact she was old and trying to get away with things she didn't use to do. Today at the clay guild i got up to get the towels to fold and she was asleep. I guess while i was in the back she thought i went out the front door and was sitting there in front of it waiting for me. I called her name. Her head never moved. I clapped my hands several times, and still not a muscle twitched. So now i feel awful. I have been scolding her and she can't hear me:( . Now i will have to watch her three times as close outside for she won't be able to hear cars either.

That's truly a bummer. You should try stomping the ground, she may be able to feel the vibrations. Hope you guys will work something out.

Aw, I'm so sorry, Smkie. Don't beat yourself up, you didn't know. It's so sad to see our dogs get old, their lives are too darn short.

she seems to hear ok if you are close up..will have to monitor. DOn't know how else to check hearing for a dog! I know in the nursing home that if people raised their voices it seemed to make things even worse.a distortion of sorts...much better to speak in the same tone but move much closer.

yup....:( Mary is the last tie to the kennels for me. WE have been through it all together and i find myself getting short with her and then getting short with myself for being cross..all this time i thought she was being a contrary mary...sigh I took her today even though she didn't mind me so well last time because she gave me those old woman eyes. The ones that deal guilt by the bucket load.

Oh, I like it! I would have really liked to see the first copy; I tend to get the best overall on my first shots, with minor fine tuning on each subsequent work.

what i feel bad is have been so exasperated with her for not coming when i call..you cant sign to her because she isn't looking..in the same room if your about half way across she seems to here ok, it is just now i know there is loss and that probably means more is coming. She will not be allowed out in the yard alone now even for a minute. I use to be able to let her out and wait a minute without worry but now if she did meander to the street she couldn't hear a car i don't think.

maybe she'd be able to hear a dog whistle?? They are designed to be very high pitched.. Perhaps teach her to come to that before she is completely deaf??

I remember when our Previous show Shelties went deaf.. one got out of the fence one night before it was bed time and we ran the streets calling his name.. lol You never really think about what you do until you can look back on it! lol
We found him(he was our old stud dog) eyeing up a neighbours bitch through the fence line the next block up lol

my friend Kelly has a little jr that is so old...she is completely deaf, and mostly blind..still she is kelly's dear, anyway her husband let queenie out and kelly thought she was in..he thought Kelly let her in and poor queenie got lost. SHe was found several blocks up the street by a kind woman that took her in (it was quite cold) and kept her until Kelly found her. It wasn't like Queenie to ever wander either. Mary has begun to wander.

Oh Smkie, please give Mary a big hug & kiss from me. I'm crying because I watch Mary and CJ going through changes in their senior years and I just want them both to be puppies again.

Smkie, don't beat yourself up. You didn't know. Just give Mary lots of extra love.
I am seeing so many changes in Roxie. She has lost the majority of her vision in one eye and stays close to the house or us now. It breaks my heart.

sorry for your roxie too!!!:( Mary has scar tissue on one eye and the surface has become thick looking. It is a shame that the mole was causing irritation but the scar tissue is what ruined her eye. It hasn't seemed to impair her that i can tell..wish she would stay close to the house:confused: it worries me. Just changes we will have to make from now on..like not being allowed outside by herself and always having one eye on her so she doesn't wander while i am working...something that never ever happened before.
