Took Lily to the dog park today and a woman came in with a most adorable little dog that looked to weigh about maybe 10 lbs.... some sort of terrier/poodle mix. Absolutely adorable! She said she found it about 3 weeks ago in traffic. It's back leg kind of jutted out and it was limping. She said the vet said the dog was old and probably had arthritis.... well, the dog looked almost puppy-like and the way the leg was sticking out and her saying the dog was found in traffic, wouldn't you think maybe the dog had a broken leg? I asked her if the vet x-rayed the leg and she said no! I couldn't believe it! I asked her how old the vet thought the dog was and she said 7 or 8... well, that is not my idea of a dog that is so old it has arthritis in it's leg... especially a stray found in traffic.... I could be wrong, but I would be willing to bet that dear little dog's leg was broken. I told her what I thought , too(in a very nice way), and suggested that she take the dog back to have the leg x-rayed... she acted like thought that might be a good idea.... I was just appalled that any vet would not have x-rayed that leg. Is that just me or is that the norm these days at some vet's offices?... :(

That's very sad but I am willing to bet the leg was not broken or that dog would have been in immense pain and would NOT have been able to move about the park with out crying out in pain.... IMO. Not to mention there would have been an incredible amount of swelling by this time. BUT I am not a vet so maybe the dog is just very tough. but I do think she should get another opinion on the leg.

That or prehaps it was an old injury, like an old break that healed wierd because of lack of proper care and by sheer luck the dog wasnt nicked by any cars when it was found in traffic as I agree with sparks if it was a fresh break the poor pup would be in agony and probably in no fit shape to be at the park.

Thats very strange that the vet never x-rayed the leg though i guess the phrase good help is hard to find is beginning to apply to people with the equivilant education as a doctor:(. Very sad indeed.

Yes, I agree this wasn't a fresh break. I don't know how many weeks it would take for it to heal into it's present condition. All I know is it looked misshapen and the dog barely put any weight on it at all. The poor little thing was trying to play but just couldn't keep up with any of the other dogs. I just hope the lady went and had the leg x-rayed just to make sure there was nothing that could be done to help this little dog...honest to God, this dog was soooo adorable! My heart just melted....
