Apparently, my Lab, Eddie, has injured himself...

When I came home from work, he stood up and I noticed that he wasn't putting his weight on his back right leg, he was holding it up (standing on 3 legs). I felt all over his leg very gently to try to see what part was hurting him. His whole leg quivered when I touched it so I stopped. I sat on the floor with him and he laid down and put his head in my lap...and eventually he rolled over on his back (like he always does) and he was moving it pretty freely. I took him out on the leash so he could potty...at first he started walking on just 3 legs but eventually he started putting weight on the hurt one and walked on it albeit with a pretty significant limp. I felt along the leg further when we came back into the house and I don't think its broken as I couldn't feel a break, he was moving it pretty freely and doesn't look swollen. I think that it could be badly bruised or sprained.

I'm going to see how he is tomorrow and if its not better, we'll head to the vet. Right now, he's crated to limit his activity and is going outside on a leash for potty breaks. He seems in good spirits, trying to play with me, ate 100% of his meal and snoozing on and off so I think that he's fine for now.

I just would like for everyone to keep the poor guy in your thoughts. :(

I definitely will. :) *hugs for you and good vibes for him*

It sounds like it's not too serious.. and I hope that is certainly the case.

Thanks everyone!

I don't think its anything serious...otherwise we'd already be at the vet...lol

I really do think that he has sprained it or just badly bruised it. I just feel bad for him...he's my baby...

When your dog does some of the seriously stupid things that Victor does, you get to see lots of strange bruises and strains. YOu betcha on the vibes for nothing serious.

the fact that its a back leg is what worries me...

let us know what happens...

:)
That's what I was thinking at the time. Leg injuries totally freak me out.

He seems better today. He's putting weight on it now though he is still moving around pretty gingerly. I think in a day or so, he'll be back to normal or close to it. I think he just needs to rest it so he's still being crated and only allowed out on leash.

But he's doing better thank goodness!

Glad to hear Eddies ok...

Scooter started as a hurt back leg and now he's gone so i tend to freak about back leg injuries...

Good luck on the "crate rest" LOL

I would keep him quiet, for a week so that whatever it is,can heal, propally!.I give my dogs and kids Arnica 30(homeopathic),3pellets,every couple of hrs and it,usually, helps with the swelling!.

I agree with trying to not let him run much or up & down stairs for a week or two to see if it improves. This is what happened to my dog CJ but after a week she completely tore the tendon and needed an operation.
