Gypsy has always been a good dog as far as accidents went. She was really easy to housebreak and would let you know as soon as she needed to go out. But for the past two weeks she has been pooping in the house everyday. Usually I find it in the morning when I wake up. She no longer likes to go outside. I can't figure out why. It's like she's scared to go in the yard now. There aren't any new neighbors and we haven't done anything to the yard recently. She doesn't seem sick or injured at all. The only thing I can think is that the fleas are pretty bad right now, despite all our efforts.

Can anyone help me figure out what's going on and how to fix it? Thanks!

I will be looking at your responses, as my daughters dog Squirt poops in the house every day at her Dad's, and is one year old.

My dogs stayed at my parents' house for a week while I was in Mexico... anyway, once we came back to our apartment, Chloe had a couple of accidents inside (including pooping in her crate  ). I'm not sure if she was confused or what it was. My parents have a doggy door, so maybe she forgot that she has to wait to be taken out with me. Anyway, she is fine now and back to her normal schedule.

Good luck... I'm not sure what to tell you.

Is it really rainy or hot outside? Some dogs dont like rain, or the hot temps. Observe her the next time you let her outside, and see what she looks at or back away from. A dog just wont do something for the heck of it...theres always some sort of reason. Any more details about your yard that she might be frightened by?

It is really hot out these days, but she's even hesitant to go outside in the evening and early morning, when it's a bit cooler.

The back of our fence does back up to a neighbor who has a dog that barks alot, but he's been there since we moved in and never bothered Gypsy before. She still loves to go outside and play in the yard when I'm with her.

It's strange, I'll ask her if she wants to go potty and she'll get excited and head to the door, but when I open it, she steps outside for about 2 seconds and then comes back in.

Make some notes on what day you started finding accidents. If there's no chance that this is a health problem, worms, her digesting fleas/eggs, a food change or an irritated bowel, a well house trained dog usually has another reason for sudden accidents. Have the neighbors been trying out any of their 4th of July fireworks the past 2 weeks? (They have been in my neighborhood for 2 weekends straight now, as soon as they went on sale here.) Remember, they can hear things you may miss and herding breeds can be rather sensitive to this. Being afraid to go out in the yard to eliminate at night, resulting in am accidents, tells me something's happened that you're not be aware of. Making some mental notes of the past two weeks activities, at night, might give you some insight on how to resolve this. Good luck.
