here is our situation, duke is a 150 lbs bloodhound german shepard mix he will be 4 in december for as long as we have had him since he as about 8 months he has never had a normal poop it has always been soft or loose. it like goes in a cycle he is ok with soft poop and then every so often he gets runny poop and then it is just water with the most horrific smell you can imagine. fyi he was shot like two years ago and he still has some beebeeies in him the vet said it was better than surgery for him. he has no physical effects from this. i am just wondering if maybe he may have some type of iron defficiency? does anyone know if dogs can handle iron supplements? thanks for your help.

What do you feed him? Maybe something in his food doesn't agree with him. Try switching to something different.

Definitely sounds like a food issue. You need to find out what's compatible for his system. I doubt if the buckshot or beebees or whatever have anything to do with it. You might take him to a nutritionalist to see what he should be on. Oh, and that buckshot/beebees should eventually work their way out... poor baby!

I would think he has some type of parasite
possibly Giardia, dogs get this from drinking stagnet water in fields
or puddles, beavers and raccoons shed Giardia

a good 3 day dose of panacur and a repeat in 3 weeks should fix him up

if not I'd be suspecting possible pancreatic/digeston probloms

is your Vet aware of this pooping pattern?
I had a dog with similar problom, Giardia is very hard to detect
sending a sample to the lab is a very accurate way

dogs can carry Giardia in their bodies for years, it will ruin their digestive track if let go too long

I agree it sounds like your dog has Giardia, 'cos my dog had that 2 mths back and it was horrible. Try sending its poo to the lab, and asap.

I'd ask for a Giardia antigen, not the normal Giardia fecal test.
Dante had two regular giardia fecals come back normal before we did the antigen one.
Positive.
:D
