Australia owns some part of Antarctica, but not all (the United Kingdom, Argentina, Chile, New Zealand, France, and Norway own other parts).

Saving whales is ridiculous. Why single out whales? Why not save all fish?
Just wondering, why are you so opposed to saving the whales? Australia has a right to protect it's own wildlife, especially if it is on the verge of extinction.

I believe the Finback whale is the fin whale that was refferred to in the article.

I have no problem with local hunting of whales by local groups done TRADITIONALLY and responsibly and for no other reasons. If the Japanese want to hunt whales in their own waters and leave sustainable herds they are welcome to it, only in their own waters and in the manner their ancestors hunted.

I have no problem with responsible hunting or harvesting animals as long as its done ethically as well. I dont see what the Japanese are doing as either.

the main reason they want to stop this is because they want to hunt the humpback whales aswell!!! there are so few of these, 97% of the population got wiped out from whaling and it is only just beginning to recover, and they want to hunt them again.

exactly, i saw a show once with pople (i think inuit) that relied on whale to keep them alive, they hunted it traditionally, and i dont like to see animals killed, but that is how they live, this commercialised hunt is just stupid though
