Alright firstly im a little upset so im sorry if this sounds a little weird. =( I came home tonight and my mother and father said you need to take Simba to the vet. i asked why and she said he had some sort of 'seizure' neither of my parents nor me know really how serious a 'fit' has to be to be considered a real seziured. Simba is just over a year old and he has never had any health problems. a very happy dog and a siberian husky so he loves to run. Here is what they told me what happened. Keep in mind this is what they told me i never saw it and nor have i EVER saw a thing wrong with him but now im scared to death
Simba was jus lying asleep with dad on the couch sleeping im sure. Dad felt him kick him like a normal dog would when he is dreaming. But then he looked at simba and simba was kicking a little more and a litlte rigid but his eyes were fine but buldging like he was scared. He picked simba up and was carrying him to the floor/stairs and called for mom. They said it lasted a few minutes but was SCARY. He was foaming everywhere and dad thought he might have choked/swallowed his tounge. After it was over mom said he was completely fine..running around went out to pee etc. Also he didnt vocalized during the event. So im confused. Can dogs have weird fits like that whe nthey are in deep sleeps or could he have choked on his tounge at all or anything else? it just didnt sound completely like a siezure to me but now its like every move he makes im watching and hoping hes ok. Should i take him to the vet or wait..

Is it possible that its NOT seizures.. if hes always been a completely healthy and happy dog.. i mean are they other reasons this might have happened?

The best thing to do would be to take him to the vet so that they can give a correct diagnosis to whatever it was. Its better to be safe than sorry

I would observe him closely and see if it happens again. The more info you can gather, the better it will help the vet in his treatment. I had a dog who had seizures once every month or so. I could have kept her zombified on Phenobarbital but I chose not to. No sense drugging her up for no reason. Now, mind you, she had petit mal seizures. If she had had grand mal then I would have had her put on the pheno.

There are other things that could be to blame. Has he had any shots lately? Oh, and tell your father to not touch that dog again if it happens again. He could very likely get the stew eaten out of him!!!!! Just a reflex, but it still hurts!!!!

Also--if the dog looks like he might bite his tongue, your father should be able to get a wooden thread spool propped in between his top and bottom fang on one side of the mouth. Just stick the fangs into the holes on the spool, and use panty hose or something to tie the mouth snugly. Have them prepare a little kit to have on hand just in case.

But tell him to NOT use his fingers to pry the mouth open. A stick would work.....one about the thickness of a good Cuban cigar, lol.

Hopefully all of this will be unnecessary because hopefully it will not happen again!!!!

i'd ask a vet just to be on the safe side. also watch him to make sure it doesn't happen again because if it does you should definitely take it to the vet

What you describe sounds like a seizure, although it's possible it's something else.

Hopefully by the time you read this you will have already talked with your vet. There can be a number of reasons a dog has a seizure and the vet will try to rule out the causes. You may never know why. It could be something environmental that has caused a single seizure or it could be something physically wrong with the dog. They may want to do bloodwork to check values and see if anything is elevated.

This could be an isolated seizure, or it may be the start of a pattern of seizures. Even if they don't discover why, it's very possible that this can be controlled through the use of drugs. I kept an epileptic dog for some eight years on medication. She did pretty well throughout that.

Good luck with Simba and please keep us posted on what the vet says.

Thanks guys for being so helpful and supportive. I didnt even sleep last night i just layed there looking at him. He slept completely fine and hes been playing and bouncing around with his toy today like nothing. Eating and drinking too. I called the vet and told her what happened and she said just to watch him to see if it happened again because he might have just bit his tounge really hard or kinda swallowed it because he wasnt dyfunctional at all afterwards. She just said keep an eye on him
Simba has a super long tounge. its insane when you look at him he like flops it right out the side of his mouth. What a cute ;x I have three siberian huskies but hes my baby thats why im just so worried =) here is a pic of himmmm <33 and one of my other sibe dakota

My dog has had three grand mal seizures. At this point, they are idiopathic, meaning that the cause is completely unknown. The first one was terrifying, the others less so because we knew what to expect. Otherwise, he is completely happy, and normal. He does not have to take any medication. He may never have one again.

Unless they become frequent and regular, I would not get too worried. You might keep a log as to time and date if it happens again to help determine if there is a specific cause.

Alicia...

We ran into the same scare with our Chow mix female. She was normal and healthy then all of a sudden she had the same type of seizure that you described in your post. It would maybe last a minute or two and would happen once every month or two. Very scary...and we were afraid she might have to go on medication for the rest of her life. So we went on a recommendation to try changing her food first. We had been feeding her Iams, Euk, and Nutro and at the time "thought" these were good foods. Of course we were completely wrong and after much research we tried Solid Gold Wolfking. Well, we started Solid Gold in January 2005 and needless to say she has never had a seizure since then. I'm not trying to say that this is the solution or cure-all, but it eased my mind knowing how much of a difference just changing her food made. Just thought I would let you know...

Also, I'm sorry this is a bit off topic, but I saw your pics of your beautiful Sibes and the Agouti one on the right looks EXACTLY like our Icelus. I even showed my boyfriend and he said he would have thought it was ours if he hadn't known that I was browsing around on this forum. I just had to comment on how much they resemble each other. We've seen others that have looked similar, but not exactly the same!! I would love to send you a pic of our "Ice Monster" :) Thanks and good luck.
