Ok, I am buying a Dogue De Bordeaux that is being born in a few weeks, so in the meantime i am doing a lot of research on the breed and on dog foods.
I want to feed my new puppy and the dog i already have... good food. I recently read that some foods have euthanized and dead diseased animals mixed into them and this really grosses me out. i really want my dogs to be healthy and live long.

Which foods are these?
What food should i feed without going broke?
i was thinking about Iams, Nutro, or Purina One, but i have heard bad stuff about all of these now. People say bad stuff about every brand of dog food it seems like. Which ones are the "good" ones? Kirkland? Pedigree? dog Chow? Pro Plan? Eagle Pack? Candiea? there are sooooo many to chose from its driving me crazy lol

Of the ones you mentioned I'd recommend Canidae - esp since it's an all stages food which will make it easier for you to feed both your current food AND your new puppy.

The better food, while more expensive, will actually cost you less than the value kibble in the long run anyway; because it has more nutrients in it and doesnt require you to feed as much.

I use Nutro, it has helped my dog have a much heatlthier skin and coat and does not contain corn. This is the food my trainer uses and recommended.

Eagle Pack Holistic line and Canidae are both good foods. Another good food is Innova :)

Hmmm new member here. :) But what do you do when your dog turns her nose up at Canidae and Innova? My pup is driving me crazy. She started out on Nutro at the pet store and I continued feeding her that and then all of a sudden she was turning her nose up at it. So I then started feeding her Canidae and wouldn't you know at first she loved it and then 2 weeks down the road she started turning her nose up at that, I then tried Purina (I know bad choice, but hey she has to eat) and she scoffed that up for about 2 weeks and now she is barely eating it. Now I am waiting for Flint River Puppy Food to come in.

I know that if I fed wet dog food that Penny would scoff it up, but I was hoping to keep her on dry if at all possible. I know that it is better for her teeth (or so I have heard) if she eats dry and it is definitely easier to work with, but am concerned that I am going to run out of different types of dried food before the silly pup will decide she likes it.

Any suggestions?

How about mixing in some wet with the dry food? Mine won't eat dry unless wet is mixed in.

I think that I am going to have to mix it as much as I would rather feed just dry. The just dry isn't working and Penny gets sick if her tummy is empty. :(

first of all lucky you they are wonderfull dogs and I would love one, iams is not nice and a lot of people i know feed Nutro and are happy with it, Pedigree, dog chow i wouldnt touch with a barge pole not herd much about the others, but it really depends on what available to you and what you can get easily, because you are getting a large dog you want to be carefull with the feeding as you want to safe guard the joints, a food with a too high protein and fat content will cause a lot of troubble

I have had great success with Blue Buffalo. The general opinion is that it is too expensive, but it is easy to get because you can buy it at PetSmart.

I feed my picky little pooch Purina One. I live in a very small town that only has a Wal Mart and there isn't a petstore with in an hour from me. I have tried everything with my puppy and he seems to like Purina One. I also give him some canned food once in awhile.

Has anyone heard of Linea Trainer?

I have a medium-size mongrel (named Speckles) and when I adopted her from my friends she was eating Eunakuba. Her fur was very shiny and her stool looked fine. But then a pet shop told me that Eunakuba was bad and gave me some samples of Burn's. It was about 30% more expensive and while I wouldn't mind paying the price, I wanted to price-shop a little. None of the other shops I went to carried it (I live in Hong Kong) and I decided to find something more widely available. Finally someone introduced me to an Italian brand named Linea Trainer. Speckles loves eating it, and judging from the ingredients list it seemed better than Eunakuba (since it has more real meat in it). But when I searched on the Internet I could hardly find any info in English. Does anyone know anything about it?
