anyone give one to their dog? If so, do they just chew on it--or do they break it up and eat it?

Mine get cows hooves either partial, or the entire hoof with the dried muscle with the ankle bones still attached made by merrick. They get chewed on until they are fairly little pieces, then tossed.

Yeah I used to buy the hollowed out ones by the bag full. Now I prefer the entire leg. They want to chew on it longer... Though old ones of all varieties occasionally become suddenly popular here.

did the hollow ones last very long? and can they break them apart? I feel like an idiot asking these questions...but am just looking for some different long lasting chew items--besides bully sticks (which really don't last that long here! The two hounds love them).

In my house the hollow ones don't last long or they get ignored.

The longest lasting chew by far is the cow foot by merrick. It takes most of my guys taking turns to demolish it down to its parts (unless Zo gets a hold of it... she can do the job on her own in 1/2 an hour!!!)

When they are fresh they get chewed on happily. I think they 'age' even though I don't see it. They don't really break in this house. They aren't as exciting as the entire foot though. FYI the hooves often smell bad when wet, haha.

thanks for the info--I may have to look for the cow foot--if my family can cope with that! Can't be any worse than watching them chew a bully stick, can it?
And, bully sticks smell pretty bad too! rofl!

I used to give Maddie the stuffed hooves, they were rollover brand. She loved eating out the inside and one would last her for days until she learned how to crack them and then it'd be about 2 hours before she was done with one. I'm not sure how safe they are but I just pick up the pieces after she's done and never had a problem thus far.

I seriously thought something had died in my house the first time I ever gave Brawt one. Now, the only time they get them is when it's nice outside so I don't have to smell it. :)

Is that the same as choo hooves? I gave them once, never again. My dogs splintered them up into little shards all over the carpet. (Can only imagine how many shards ended up in their tummies.) Not good for hard chewers, IMO.
