Here are some photos of my alleged Mega-beagle, aka Tree Walking Coonhound, aka Treeing Walker Coonhound.

They are from last winter, I need to get something newer, I know.

They are at the dog park, with a regular Breagle for comparison purposes.

Here they are sniffing. That's always the first thing they do.

Here they are sniffing some more, that's always the next thing they do

Then the zoomies begin

I've never had another Coonhound, so i can only vouch for Uncle Fred. In spite of being viciously abused for about his first nine months, he has turned out to be a great family dog.

He is quiet in the house, and gentle with everyone and everything, including kids, cats and Guinea Pigs. He does howl when strangers are on the property, and loud enough to wake the dead. He has a different, softer howl for friends. Outdoors he is very loud. Happy hounds howl, and there is no stopping them.

He is a total clown when he is outside- look at the photos, he is just silly. He is very loyal, much more so than the beagle. He does require just a ton of exersize. We run him next to a bike for about half an hour a day, take him on regular hikes, and give him and Mini an hour and a half at the dog park every day.

He is a total klutz, falling down the stairs and crashing into things if he looks over his shoulder when he is running on a regular basis. He has the most beautiful extended trot I have ever seen on a dog- reminds me of a Standardbred horse coming down the stretch.

He is a terrible eater, it is quite a chore convincing him to eat enough, and he has a finicky digestive system, but this could have something to do with being starved for nine months.

I love his voice, but if you don't like random howling, this is not the dog for you. He sounds like a foghorn. AROOOOOO!

I have to say, I have become pretty vain about the way the two of them look together. They turn heads everywhere they go.

Surprisingly often I get, "Oooo is the big one the little one's mommy?" Keep in mind that Uncle Fred is not only unneutered, but excessively well-endowed.

I'm thinking you could have some fun with a Treeing Walker Coonhound if you took him to the mall early in the morning . . . when the Walkers are out :D
Well, he would have to improvise. He could be a Benching Walker Coonhound, I suppose.

That pretty much describes all the coonhounds I've known at rescue, and I've known a lot of coonhounds! Big goofy slobbery nutballs, the lot of 'em! We have a treeing walker female right right now at rescue and when she's out of her run she doesn't shut up! They have to tell the world how they feel. I've come to enjoy a coonie's musical talents. :)
