He's an adorable puppy, but, I do not see any Pharaoh hound in him at all (or Ibizan). I've been around a couple Pharaohs but not many and I don't know a whole lot about them as far as temperment goes.

That's not a Pharoah or Ibizan mix. I don't know what it IS, but I can tell you that it's not a pharoah mix.

A lot of dogs on Petfinder are labeled Pharoah hound solely because they have erect ears. Pharoahs and Ibizans are extremely rare in this country (the AKC registered 109 Pharoahs in 2005), so I find it pretty hard to believe that they're all running loose, mating with whomever they want.

I've met a couple pharoahs and ibizans in a boarding kennel type situation. The ones I've met have had pretty much the typical sighthound temperament (friendly with their family, needy and clingy, intelligent, prey-driven), but have been quiet and reserved with strangers.

They're definitely one of my favorite breeds!

We have a pharoh hound mix at our shelter. (At least thats what we think he is- he can be seen at http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=5962853) He is a very smart dog who likes to be with people. He hates cats and will chase them relentlessly. He has a bark that could shake the concrete floors. Thats been my only experience with them.
I saw that one too. I only live about an hour from that shelter.

Also I have seen some purebred Pharoahs online and I have to say I really think these dogs are Pharoah mixes no matter how rare they are.

What are other mixes are there that could produce ears like that?

They could be mixes of any dog which can have prick or bat ears. GSDs, pit bulls, bostons, various terriers, whatever. I can't actually find a list online of all the types of ears in all the breeds, and I am too lazy to go through my breed books and list them all, but Pharoah hounds are not the only dogs with erect or bat ears.

There is nothing sighthoundy at all about the first guy's build or appearance. The second guy posted looks like a shep mix to me. *shrug*

(Also, pharoah hounds are a Maltese breed, not an Egyptian one. I gather the fact that Americans think the breed is from Egypt causes some consternation on Malta. :) )

we met a pair at the off leash dog park. Vic loves to get anyone to chase him and these two were more then game. He found out quickly that these dogs were no poodles, he had to run like he never had before in his life. The pharoh hounds were FAST!!!!! and tireless. When he got home his muscles quivered for over an hour and he was absolutely worn out. http://www.chazhound.com/pictures/showphoto.php?photo=7325&cat=500&ppuser=2623 ONe thing is for sure they have incredible endurance.

They dont look anything like a Ibizin hound or a Pharho hound. They are so rare it's even hard to find a breeder. I know because I was looking at them before I got Emma.
