Hey guys! I thought this might be fun. Who ever would like to join in the challenge is more than welcome!!! Here's the challenge....

Everyone think of 1 thing to work on with your dog. So choose 1 dog, and think of something that, that dog needs work on. Like their sit, down, come, heel, stay....etc... For this challenge, it's only obedience wise. Then on Monday, Feb. 13th, everyone will start the challenge. So you'll have from now till monday to choose what you'd like to work on, then on monday you'll start. You'll have till Sunday, and the challenge ends.

So, if your interested in joining in on the challenge, post below! Introduce your dog, and what you've chosen to work on with that dog. Let us know where your dog is at right now on it and how it's doing. You can keep us posted through out the week on how they are doing if you'd like. Or you can wait till Sunday and then post how far you got with your dog :). If you'd like to post pictures, they are more than welcome! At the end of the challenge, we'll see how far everyone got. I'd like to do some kind of prize or something at the end for the one who got the furthest, but I'm unsure of what everyone would be interested in and that can be done completely over the internet. No money, no mailing lol. So if you have an idea for that then post that as well. If not, then celebrate yourselves! lol, treat yourself with an ice cream, and your dog a large bone or something to chew on. Something special for the both of you.

My challenge pup for this will be Baby. She's one of the rottie pups from our litter. I'd say she needs some work on her loose leash walking. So that's what I'll be working on. Right now she will walk by my side with attention on me for up to 2-3 steps before I stop and reward her. So my goal for next week (good to have one in mind) is to get up to 10-15 steps by sunday.

Please post yours! Hope to see others join in.

I'll join but I can't start until next wed. I need to work on loose-leashing walking with both Nanook and Mikey.

I shall work on Otto and his down/stay. I am working on down as his command to stay were I put him until released. I trying to make one command mean both to him if that makes sense.

Anyhow were in.

I'm in! I'll work on Zeus' stay. I want him to be able to stay for at least 5-10 minutes. That would be incredibly useful.

I'll work on stand and come with Ambur. BTW, what's the best way to teach a dog how to come on command?

I'm torn between working on two things:

1. Stay with distractions. Started this in our puppy kindergarten class last week. Sometimes he does real well with it, sometimes not.

2. Stop. He already knows this in the context of walking; i.e., stop & sit down at the crosswalk. But I've been trying to use it inside when he gets to playful with the cats, who aren't very appreciative.

What Lyric needs work on is something he had very solid, but now with the snow outside, he's not wanting to stay sitting very long and it's gotten sloppy. I don't know whether to work on that or not. His little Doberbutt might get stuck to the ground. So, that might have to be brushed up on inside or in the spring. LOL.

Let's see.....hmmm....I think we'll concentrate on the drop command but inside in different locations. That's something we also started before the snow and he's gotten lax about. He's just so big and my house is so small but there's 4 ft. of snow outside. Grrrr. So, that's it....the drop command....getting it snappier in the house.

Definitely going to clean up Dakota's stay. It's gotten very sloppy, I've been a bad mom lately and have been letting him get away with releasing himself before I give the okay, just because he anticipates it at the right time. (ie: he lies down while I am opening the door but exits after I walk through, because he knows it's his turn)

This is cool ...!

Maddie ~ loose-leash walking. I call it heeling, but it isn't a perfect heel. She likes to pretent she's a sled dog and hauls me down the side walk. She knows what the word 'heel' means, but its my fault we don't do it because its never bothered me before. I have years of this to untrain, but I'm up to the challenge

Missy ~ a solid sit. I'm going to enroll her in classes mainly for socialization, but in order for peace in my home I need her to learn sit without popping back up, asap. This will be different because she is NOT food motivated, and is only toy motivated on her terms.

Carly ~ a longer stay. She can sit or down stay for about a minute, and I haven't been pressuring her at all because I was content with what I got. 5mins is my goal

What a great idea! :D Well, my guy is quite old so I'm not sure how far he'll go but I want to try and get him to sit properly. When he sits, it's more of a sit...then slid into drop/down. LOL I'd love him to stop doing that.

What a fun challenge. :) I'll start right away.

Great idea, I am going to continue to work on Bailey's loose leash walking. He is such a puller!

We decided to work on a couple of things this week.

Holding the dumb bell is one of them, in addition to the drop.

This young bitch is SO much fun and so easy to train. In THREE DAYS, with minimal reps, she has learned to PROUDLY hold the dumb bell, and to reach out and cheerfully grab it.

In this photo, she had just dropped it, and I had replaced it in her mouth with a mild verbal correction. You can SEE that she is slightly worried, and thinking about it.

I reinforced the hold with verbal praise and a food reward TWICE, and then THIS is the photo I got, after she had been walking around holding it, and SPEAKING when I asked her if she was ready to "take it".

:D

Look at the attitude difference. Ears up. Eyes confident. She is a piece of work, I tell you.

Well guys, it's day 2 of the pets challenge, how'd day 1 go? I realize today is valantines day, Happy Valantines day by the way! lol. So it's up to you to work on it today or not. If you guys want to this can end on next monday instead of sunday so we still get the same amount of time. For me, Yesterday I didn't get to work with baby on her heeling :(. Though I did get in sessions with 4 of our other dogs :). Working on conformation training mostly on the stack with 2 of the dogs. Obedience / Heeling, puppy pushups, and place command with another dog. And working on getting two of our other dogs to get along. lol. Then we went out for valantines day since I have a dentist appointment today :(. Hopefully I'll still get to work with baby today though, it's beautiful out! Love to hear how every one elses first day went. Awww what a cute rottie :), lol deffinately a difference in the pics.

I'm very happy to see everyone so interested in this, depending on how this goes, I have many other ideas for other pets challenges for in the future. So keep an eye out after this one finishes!
