Hey everyone,

I am starting to plan my summer vacations because the warmer weather is putting me in a good mood. I was hoping to get your input on traveling with your pets. Do any of you take your dog on vacation?

I think it's cheaper for my dog to fly with than it is to board him for a week but, having him along hinders what I can do to enjoy the vacation. I read this article in Petcentric and was wondering if you thought it rang true. What are some of your experiences when traveling with your dogs?

I have yet to fly with my dog because I drive usually. My inlaws live a 12 hour or so drive away. I have had friends fly with dogs and it costs about$60-$90 each way usually, depending on airline and time of year. they said if its small, you can hold it on your lap too..i think?

Mine have only gone when traveling by car . The trip was planned around the dogs and we had a grand trip . I would never take them on a city trip with a lot of restaurants and shopping involved .

We always drive when taking dogs (and/or one cat) with us (and we always plan our day trips around the dogs - no all day excursions). I don't think the airlines allow dogs (unless they're small enough to fit in a carrier under the seat) in the cargo area in summer.
