Pet store puppies?

A friend of my kid sister bought a bulldog from a pet shop at the mall. Poor thing didn't live to see its third birthday.

I had a past buyer of my pups who lost his old dog call to see if I had any Golden pups... I said no, not for another year or so. But I knew of a litter due in a few months. He went to the pet store and paid twice as much for a Golden puppy....poor dog was full of worms , had parvo and other infections and had to be put down at 10 weeks. I had warned him in the past never to go this route. When he called me back , luckily I was able to hook him up with the other breeder . Yes, he still had to wait 3 months, but at least he had a healthy pup.....He had paid over $600 for the 1st pup... over $800 in vet care... never got a penny back.

All I know is that I worked at PetsMart and they made sure everything was filled out to the humane society or shelters standards before letting any animal go. When you finally got your dog/cat it had it's shots, was spayed/neutered and you had filled out all the questions and (usually) had a home visit (especially with dogs). I don't know where you live that would just "give" a cat the same day, but certainly not the one in Louisiana that I worked at.

I live in DE, the Petsmarts must be better where you live.

I didn't know pet store puppies were so bad health wise. I would be heart broken to have to put a new puppy down, or have it get sick and die. I think my parents got my chi at a pet store, not sure though, I wasn't born yet. I don't remember him having any serious problums; we must have been lucky.

Petsmart and Petcetera (just in Canada I think) don't 'sell' dogs. They get animals through humane associations. If your petsmart isn't up to standards you should report them!

You were nicer than I was! I don't think I'd have helped him find a new dog.

Oh no, they don't sell the cats and dogs, they have a cat adoption area that gets cats in from a shelter, and they only bring dogs in from a shelter once or twice a week for a few hours.
