We just had to put our dog of 10 year to sleep on Tuesday. Unfortunately the price to try and save her out weighed the price we could afford. So we did the best we could for her. We ended all her suffering.

I had been interested in pet insurance before but never looked into it. Does anyone have it or recommend a good pet insurance. Looks like the older a dogs gets the higher your premiums are going to be. Any thoughts, suggestions or opinions on this matter?

Dear Mayor,

Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of your beloved family member. Yes, I can refer you to an excellent insurance company for dogs. Veterinary Pet Insurance, located in Brea, CA has been my carrier for 18 years. They have different tiers from which you can choose. I also chose the top tier, since the cancer and other problems are covered by three times the general reimbursement. I had to put down my brother and sister black labs in the same month. Both had cancer, but with the help from VPI I was able to give them 2 1/2 years of quality life.

If you insure your dog when they are puppies, the premium remains the same throughout the years. You will have to check with them re older dogs.

Again, I am so so sorry you lost one of your best friends.

I have insurance for my 1 year old doxie through Banfield which is the petsmart vet.
They had a really good puppy plan (reason I got it), then I decided to continue with it, and it came in handy a few months ago when Thumper had a really bad UTI, and is still be treated for it. It has saved me about 300 bucks on bills.

The only thing is the vets here in WA are very pushy and think everyone has money falling about of their butts, and got kinda insulted when I refused to run a few extra test that I couldnt afford. Thats the only complaint I've had so far with the plan. The vets in Louisiana were the best though, and I was a little disippointed with the rude vets here, but i guess that is south for yea!

Thanks for all your responses. I am also looking for a different vet here in the Katy, TX area. I feel our vet dropped the ball and our dog paid the ultimate price. She had just had her checkup on Friday and by Saturday she was getting very sick. Took her back to the vet on Monday and by Tuesday she was going into renal failure. Our vet missed her heart murmur and that fact that she probably had canine diabetes. Both of which the ER Vet discovered immediately.
