Got this article in my e-mail. I wish they would set up some of these forests in Oregon. This article comes from the K9 magazine.
The Forestry Commission has installed new bins across the New Forest following a recent survey that reported that dog walkers wanted more facilities to enable them to clean up after their dogs and keep the forest a special place.

The bins are part of a new scheme to help clean up the forest, and make the area a more ‘dog-friendly’ place. Dog walking is one of the most popular recreational activities in the forest and the recent survey reports that 39% of local residents own one or more dogs, almost double the national average of 22% (Pet Food Manufacturers Association).

Based on these figures, the report suggests that there are around 27,000 dog-owning households in the New Forest National Park area. Considering the numbers of dogs owned and the frequency of walks, the survey estimates that approximately 25,000 dogs are walked in the forest at least once a day facilitating the need for many more bins.

Many suggestions were made about improving the facilities for dog walkers in the forest including the provision of bins. As a result, the Forestry Commission has installed four new bins at six of the most popular sites (two already have bins) and launched a poster campaign to inform dog walkers that bagged dog waste can be disposed of in a normal litter bin.
