Pepper is so cute! Was she pointing birds or critters?

And, awwww, poor Victor... it was darned cold today, I splashed some water on my gloves while emptying a water bucket at the barn and it froze immediately. At least it's supposed to warm up this weekend.

I don't think pepper was pointing, I think her paw was cooooold. Victor said forget this, forget you, I am inside and I ran right behind him. I would warm up and then try for another good view of the woods. Couldn't' stay out more than a few minutes.
I had this pair of wool gloves that came from some Amish farm when I use to do the kennel work that was outside. Water ran right off them too. They were fleece inside, and heavy woven wool out. Those gloves were the only ones that kept my hands from freezing while I handled water buckets and metal. They finally wore out and I never found another like them.

Hopefully the warm coming will wake up all the fleas and then it can turn cold again zap em dead. TAke the ticks with em. IT hasnt' been cold enough long enough to do what is needed.

One year about this time we had a warm foggy night where all the lightening bugs that were hibernating in the trees in the woods came out and blinked along the branches. I ran in and woke Hyia up to come see. IT looked so beautiful. I have seen some incredible sights in those woods, including the frost this morning. I almost had to move, I think it would have broken my heart in two. I have grown pretty attached to my little mountain.

I'ts time to start the winter clean up. Pepper is my helper .TOday we found 5 gal bucket that we put beer bottles, old Tupperware, some strange tubing I don't know what is, a broken jar, and oil container, a cup, and that filled it to take to the trash. Hyia and I have cleared our section of the woods that no one else around her gives a dang about and now we begin on the next section. I don't know why my neighbors can't see the beauty back there that I do. Vic use to help, but now that he is blind it is harder for him to feel confident and the pace is slow. For Pepper it is exciting, closer to where she really wants to be and counts as a walk. I wish someone would come for the tires, we took out as many as we could, but after many calls to both cities, and even stream cleanup, the official answer was no one cares.

While we are down there will cut out the trash brush around the sapling oaks too. it takes such little effort, a few minutes a day and the progress has made this place so much nicer for all. Removing the honeysuckle and cutting it back has left room for better bird cover too.
