We go on vacations no problem. I'll probably be gone a month this summer. (Though I'm going to miss my little girl)

The boarding does add up some, but it's worth it and our breeders board our crew cheap.

I don't understand why people will only be friends with people who like dogs - I don't CARE if people don't get that I love my dog - it has nothing to do with them.
Hmm. To me, it becomes difficult when you have emotionally needy/clingy friends who don't understand why someone won't neglect their dog (I'm not talking "neglect" as in a night out, I'm talking "neglect" as in going on a 2-day road trip and leaving the dog at home with a big bowl of food and water) and then getting angry about it because they've never owned a dog and just have no idea what having one is like.

I have friends who don't like dogs, but who at least understand that a dog is a responsibility that takes precedence over being as completely spontaneous as people would sometimes like you to be.

None whatsoever, except for the rare occasions when I have to lock them up in the garage for a few hours because of guests who are afraid of them or allergic.

Because they don't understand that I'd rather be home practicing heeling or off at a protection training class than at a restaurant having dinner. They'd be welcome to come to the class with me and watch, but that generally doesn't interest them.

Because when they want to come visit me at home, they don't appreciate the fur on the couch, the fur on the kitchen counter, the four dogs barking at them, the malinois welcoming committee, sharing a couch with a dog who insists on sticking his tongue up their nose.

It's not that I'm unwilling to be friends with non-doggy people. It's that it just doesn't work out very well.

Nope. :p

They don't get in the way of my social life and I don't get in the way of theirs. Mainly because... we are each other's social lives.

I think multiple dogs makes it easier... when you do go out you dont feel as bad because they have each other.

Vacations are the only issue... for a typical summer 9-10 days vacation that we take it costs over a thousand dollars for the 6 animals to be taken care of.... which adds to the cost of the trip. But you just have to allocate extra for the vacation.

I don't go on vacations my dogs can't come with me on. Or my cat (who's basically a fourth dog with her behavior). We're basically stuck with camping. Which is fine by me. I wouldn't have it any other way.

What's a social life? *Goes to find a dictionary*

My dogs are my social life, and I couldn't be happier. :)

Granted, I have a bunch of friends, but all work in dog rescue, own a bunch of dogs, or work in dog related fields, so basically my life as a whole revolves around dogs. I couldn't ask for much more than that! :D

We have 3 and wherever we go our dogs come along most of the time. On the rare occasins that we do have to leave them they are company for each other. The house would seem so empty without them.

I agree with the above postings... the only think I had to add is dogs (especially multiple dogs) make great excuses if you don't want to go somewhere :rofl1:

I have to say I agree!

Well, my best friend is a mega dog lover, and pretty much everything we do involves our dogs. So no, my social life is fine! lol. I hang out with my non-dog loving other best friend only about once a week. Everyone is really busy with school and work anyway. I am fine just hanging out at home with the dogs, and going to the park and river with the dogs. And hanging out with my best friend, of course with the dogs .lol
My best friend is a mega dog lover, too. I converted her ;) LOL

I could actually argue that point! LOL... my dogs are amazing judges of character, and it's usually people who suck in general who don't love them. :p

But, basically, most people do prefer having friends with some similar interests. Whatever the interest may be. And as far as all of us feeling that way, anyone who posts regularly on a dog forum is usually pretty interested in dogs (usually, not always... there are a few creeps). Initially hanging out with a person, if they didn't have dogs or weren't into dogs wouldn't be a big deal. But, if we're going to be actual friends, who hang out on a daily basis and not just at parties or whatever, it would be very annoying and honestly concerning if they didn't learn to love doing dog things. MOST of my friends weren't that into dogs when we first became friends, but I always suck them in. hehe.
