I've had someone come up to me in the petstore once when I had both schnauzers, and had heard Stryder bark from the next aisle and came over because she recognized that sound and KNEW they were schnauzers. And then asked me what they were mixed with, then proceeded to try and argue with me because they are black they are not purebred.

When we had our black Pug, a few people in the community were afraid of him. They said he was a pit bull, LOL. They were afraid of his snorting, I told them he couldn't help it.
"You better not let that pit bull off that leash!"

Okay, crazy person, whatever you say.

Also, not a dog, but with my cat: He knows his name, and will come when you call him. My roommates are of the opinion that cats cannot be trained, cannot learn their names, and simply 'respond to sounds'.
Ry and I have given up on telling them differently. But I really get tired of hearing their CLICK CLICK CLICK with their tongues to call the cats, instead of just calling their names. They both come to me just fine without obnoxious sounds, especially Rockefeller. Little do they know, I've been working with their cat while they're at work everyday, LOL. Secret training. :rofl1:

This.. but sometimes they are too dense to get it. When I used to have a harlequin dane, people used to tell me he was a dalmatian all the time. Silly me, I didn't know dalmatians were 135lbs!
I used to get the dalmatian comment with a merle! I've heard Weimeraner, Greyhound, and Catahoula too. I've also heard that it can't be a Dane because they come with ears that stand up.

Maverick is a little anxious around people but tends to attract a lot of attention. He gets people yelling MARMADUKE and coming at him. If I'm lucky enough to have them ask before they pet him I'll tell them no and explain that strangers make him nervous. Sometimes I get "Well, I used to have Danes." Oh well, of course, that makes him less anxious about you sticking your hand in his face. Go ahead. We brought him to a vaccination clinic once to get him his bordetella vaccine. While we were waiting in line a woman comes up and grabs his lips while commenting about how big and floppy his lips were. Then she points out her Cane Corso pup farther back in line. I'm sure that pup has turned into a well behaved, stable dog.

I love being told how to pronounce my breeds name by someone who hasn't ever met them, and it is even worse when they are supposed to be breeders. Cousins of ours had people argue with them at the dog park about corsi and breed info. They were telling them what the breed was bred for, that their ears were not cropped they are born that way, that they are supposed to be huge, etc. My cousin asked if they have even met one and they said yes that their close personal friend had one, a solid black one named Hemi that she imported from the US. These people apparently were the ones at the park when I first took Hemi there at 3 months and didn't listen to anything I told them so chose to make up stuff. My cousin had a pic on his phone of us as he was showing off my dog and showed them, asking if this was the dog and they said yeah so he had seen it and he said yes it is my cousin's dog.

People always tell me that my rotties are killers and I should watch my children around them. They also tell me that I am going to have to get rid of my corsi because they are no good around kids, that they were bred as fighting dogs and will turn on my kids.

The un-educated abound but if I can help just one person realize this isn't true then I will continue to try.

Oh man. Let's see what my dogs have been called...

Rory: Borzoi, GOLDEN RETRIEVER, brittany, aussie (the closest and most understandable guess)...

Chloe: Husky, JRT

Emma: Papillon, Pomeranian

Tucker: Yorkie, Papillon, Pomeranian

Rylie and Emma have gotten the "are those teacups?" question a good handful of times. They've been called Ferrets before as well. WTF?!

Oh, and this classic:

(points to the four chihuahuas)

Person: "Are those the mom, dad, and puppies?"

Me: "Huh?"

Person points to Chloe and Rylie, usually.

"Are those the mom and dad?"

Me: "No, they're not related."

Person: "So why do you have so many of them? Are you sure they aren't mom, dad, and kids?"

*Bangs head against wall at stupidity*

I get that with the pugs too... I usually say "do you see any male parts on any of these dogs?"

Also when i have izzie at the store and charlie and tessa are there too people ask me what they are and when i say tessa is a pug/boston mix they automatically think she is the offspring of izzie and charlie... Yeah no, tessa is NINE... older than BOTH dogs.

I've also been asked if Cisco is the puppy of Izzie

I would probably say something like "You haven't met my kids, I fear more for the dog than for the kids" with a totally straight, deadpan expression.

"And what do you mean I should watch my kids around the dogs? Shouldn't everybody??"

I will get on more pics... have been a little slack with the new born but have to get some new ones of all of the corsi.

Yup but they for some reason believe the dogs are safer if it is a "family breed". My dogs would so agree with watch out for the kids rather then the other way around :)

Yep, Quinn's a mutt actually! There's no such thing as an English Shepherd, I'm making it up - she HAS to be a cross.

I actually asked a very bold, very rude friend of my dad if she wanted to see her UKC papers or her ESC papers (her choice!) when she insisted Quinn was a mutt. Nothing wrong with a mutt, but I know what my dog is thank you very much! Thankfully most people, even if they haven't heard about the breed, either keep it to themselves if they don't believe me or get interested and ask questions.

Still love the people who insist that Sarama must be part pit bull because she's brindle.

Or that she must be part wolf or part coyote.

Nope. Nope and Nope.

Ok, technically, I don't know that she's NOT part wolf or part coyote (she's pretty obviously no measurable amount ABPT) but there is nothing about her that makes any of those things especially likely.

I've also had people insist she must be some sort of pure purebred, because she's so pretty. Yes, she is pretty, and no, she's not a purebred, nor does she need to be.

Oh, and then there's the people who think Docket is a corgi mix because he has a tail. One, he's a Cardigan corgi, they all have tails, and two, many Pembroke corgis have tails too, when they are born. The absence of a tail does not a corgi make.

There was a lady with a BC at the park a few years ago that thought my two were shih tzu mixes. And she insisted and insisted they had to be part shih tzu. I think she guessed shih tzu poodle. Because this screams shih tzu:

We get chihuahua and pom more often than papillon. I often say papillon and people ask 'what mix is that?' No, it's a purebred. Yeah but what did they mix to make that.

One guy just kept asking me how I got their ears to be like that. I've also had several people ask if I 'cut' their ears to make them like that. And I had one lady with a JRT that asked why I docked their tails....

My favorite (sarcasm) is when people tell me that chihuahuas and papillons are pretty much the same thing. One guy told me my dogs were 'just glorified chihuahuas' Whatever that means. Nope, just a different breed.

Strangely enough, people think Romeo is a Papillon ALL THE TIME.
I didn't even think that many people knew about paps, yet when I get a chi.. everybody knows.

I mean.. he doesn't even have the ears!! I guess it's just the fur that gives the wrong impression..
He also gets pekinese quite often.

I had someone at work scoff, "You said she was some FANCY ASS thing, she's just a German Shepherd!"

I didn't argue, because while I (like everyone I run into, it seems) grew up with GSDs, and think that Elsie is worlds apart from them in terms of personality, she was staunchly and argumentatively in favor of both rescue and the idea that all dogs are basically the same under the fluff.

I love the idea that Elsie is some fancy ass thing, though.

So fancy.

My dog tends to be one of those "see but never hear" him types. Most people don't notice him after the initial greet at the door so I've never really been questioned or told I am wrong about him.

I only ever hear about him "WOW HE'S A GOOD LOOKING DOG!" or "Is he part Bernese Mountain Dog?" I don't ever hear comments because he keeps to himself and so do I.
