My point is he shouldn't have yelled at her dogs, but simply said, "Get your dogs away from me." I can understand why he was scared - like I said, I'm not "the dog lover" when strange dogs run up to me.

Everyone reacts to fear in different ways. Tina, you flail when you see a bee. I freeze up and hyperventilate. Rational or irrational, I think fears should be respected, especially if your responsible for the thing causing the fear. Jenn, you make a goo point with people who are afraid of dogs should not go in an offleash are, but is that even the case here??

No, I don't think they were in an offleash area or a "Dog Park". And Boy do I flail. It's really embarrasing for anybody I'm with, but I don't care, and it's not something I totally control.
I think whether or not there are leash laws, you should have a dog leashed when not in a designated area.
Everywhere else on the site people are always pointing out the importance of having your dog under your control 100% of the time, the same should apply here, even if the person your dog runs up to acts like a lunatic or not.

If there are no leash laws the techincly the whole city is an off leash and you have every right to have your dog off leash

Yeah sure, but that doesn't mean it's the respectful, and curteous thing to do
My dogs have everyright to be off leash if there are no laws against it. Just as much right as you have to having your kids screaming and running around outside in the COMMON areas of our town house complex making noise and disterbing both me and my dogs.

A sidewalk is a common area, everyone has a right to be there

You can't honestly compare children to dogs. I know we love them like children, but when was the last time you heard of a child escaping it's mother and mauling another toddler beyond recognition? Or a child running up to an adult and biting it causing nerve damage on it's legs/arm/face? It's like apples and oranges.
I wouldn't have my dog off leash just because it wasn't against the law. I keep my dog on leash, unless we are in the dog park, for his safety and the safety and comfort of others.

Everyone seems to be scared of my dogs because they look like 'greyhound types'. They always think they bite and it really annoys me. But i love em andi don't care if no one else does. :)

NO ONE is EVER their...Its was way out in NO WHERE...They didn't need a leash, their was no signs that said NO DOGS allowed, their was no signs that said MUST BE ON LEASH.

My dogs didn't "run" up to this guy like you guys are thinking. I was not trying to make such a big deal out of this thread. I was just saying how the guy freaked out over NOTHING..My dogs didn't show ANY sign that they were going to bite him and like I said after he was flipping out they barked and then just kept walking straight.

I think some people like to get so carried away over little stuff on here. Yes I understand that they shouldn't of got that close to to guy where he felt scared, but I don't feel like I should of had them all on leashes. We been going their for a year now and this is the FIRST time we ran into someone.

I can and I do. Personaly I HATE most kids. They are nosy and are allowed to run around here screaming and yet god help me if my dog lets out one bark.

Im not going to continue to argue with you. If you want to argue there is a PM button. My dogs are WAY more important, to me, than your kids or anyone's kids.

Wow, you sound like a lovely person. I wasn't arguing at all, I was stating an opinion, in a very calm and non-personal way. I'd rather not PM you.

I don't think it was rude of him to go crazy. I don't mean to flail about and act like an idiot when I see a bee. But I do. Because I've been stung 5 or 6 times.
Hmm, I wonder why you have been stung so often lol.

Fear almost always causes people to react in a manner that will not help at all and will almost always worsen the situation.

I have seen some pretty odd behaviour from people since I have had Buckshot. I take him into the hardware store all the time. The counter girls love him to death. The last time I was in though, things were different. I was in one checkout line alone and the other checkout line had 8 people in it. Buckshot was on a leash, being a good boy right next to me, but people were intimidated by a harmless puppy.

Jenn, maybe you're not meaning to but your words are coming out very harsh. Talking about someones kids is probably going to provoke defensive emotions... :(
(though I agree :p )

Iluv I reread your first post... That guy was even afriad of your cute little Pepper ?? I think he was getting a little carried away

People have many different fears. Cant help that. He shouldnt have been in a offleash park if that was the case.

Kids are alot like dogs...Bad owners/bad parents=unruley dogs/kids.
I have 7 kids im not offended at all by jenns post. I have seen and experienced unruley kids. I have 1 myself.
1 out of 7 isnt too shabby though:)

YES, all the dogs and my dad were up ahead and Pepper was by me. Pepper wouldn't WALK pass this guy, he was scared so I had to pick him up and carry on. The guy was staring at Pepper the whole time in that SAME position with his hands and feet all over the place.

Just because there weren't signs up doesn't mean there aren't leash laws, but since you say there's very rarely anyone there besides you, I can see why your dogs were off-leash.
But, just because they weren't showing any signs of aggression doesn't mean he doesn't have any right to be scared. Maybe he has had bad experiences with dogs in the past, maybe he's not a dog lover, maybe he thought they were mean, or maybe, like me, he's not too fond of dogs he doesn't know running up to him. Whatever the cause, I agree it was rude of him to yell at your dogs, but he had every right to be scared.

Actually, if you'll think about it, unsupervised kids maul each other - and shoot each other - with alarming regularity. And they bite. They bite hard. Sometimes hard enough to cause nerve damage and require plastic surgery. And human bites are infinitely more septic than dog bites . . . And as much as I love kids, I'd be a lot quicker to rent property to a dog owner than to someone with kids . . . (ducks and covers ;) )
