well I know of a person who put duct tape on backwards onto their couch.. dog has never jumped up on the couch after that experience..

I personally dont recomend that option though.. LOTS of pain afterwards I'd imagine for the doggie ripping that tape off..

There are actually things that you can get at the pet stores that look like little mats with spikes on them. i'm not sure what they are called but you just have to place them on the couch and they are very spikey. I thought it was a mat at first so I took it off the shelf and stepped on it.. SOO not a good idea.. lol

I heard you could put balloons, so when they jump up there it will pop and scare them

When she jumped on your bed and or couch what did you do? Did you reprimand her and tell her to get down? As soon as you see her heading up there, give her a firm NO and tell her to get down. If you choose that you don't want her on furniture, and would rather her be on her own bed, then train her to do as you wish.

Whilst you are teaching her this, you will have to watch her like a hawk. Every time she goes to get up, a firm NO and demand that she get straight back down.

Then redirect her to her own bed immediately. Eventually with persistance she will learn that her place is on her own bed/mat and not on your bed or furniture.

good luck

Good advice from Carolyn and although the other ideas might just work, I agree the duct tape might rip off some skin off the pads. Those little things from the pet store might be good but expensive by the time you cover your whole bed.

You can train your dog. Take her off the bed the instant she's up there or better yet when you see her getting ready to spring up, at the first intention. redirect her to her own bed which you can have on the floor. Have something for her...a doggie bed or some blankets and show her nicely what you mean. You don't need to scold her harshly...she doesn't know.

When she lies down there be sure to praise and even give a treat. Be very, very consistant and prevent her from getting on the bed. Everytime she does, that's a reinforcer for getting up there and she'll tend to repeat it. If you can't be there, then close the door and don't let her in. You have to be present to train her. The more reinforcers (praise, treats) she gets for using her own bed, the more she'll repeat that. But her own bed needs to be as comfy as you can make it so it's on par with the competition...(the bed) LOL. Good luck.

i just got new furniture and decided it was not going to be doggie friendly as it were before. so i bought a squirt bottle and filled it with water. out of my four dogs only the two young puppies wanted to get on the new furniture but we did watch them like a "hawk" and as soon as we caught them up they got a lil squirt and a firm get down. it took about two weeks and they rarely get up anymore. I also saved the cusions from the old furniture and put them on the floor for the first week, then went and got some used chair pads from my local thrift store for them on the floor now. Hope this helps a little

Yep Mstudy thats some great ideas as well. I am a big fan of the squirt bottles as well. I know they don't work good for some people either, but for me they have worked a treat. Even my cat knows the water bottle in sight means he's been up to no good :)
