Penny pulling the cart clip

Discussion in 'Dog Pictures and Pet Photos' started by RedyreRottweilers, Jan 19, 2009.

  1. Here is the clip. This is one of the first times she has pulled off of a paved surface. Excuse the video quality, how hard is it to just point a camera and hold it still?? LOL

As time goes along I can already see I will use the lines much much less than I do now. She is learning already HAW and GEE, and EASY (to slow down). She has WHOA for stop, WALK for move out from a stop and continue at walk, and HIKE for trot. Honestly I have been rather astounded by first how readily she took to the entire rig and set up, including the Halti, and by how FAST she is learning the verbal commands.

Today we went to a local park that has wide sidewalks/walkways. She is doing great on turns, and today we did serpentines around some big pillars as well. This is SO darn much fun, and we had several groups of kids come up and marvel at the cart and pet her today.

I am looking forward to the time when she is well trained enough that I can give some rides to others.

  8. She's looking GREAT Red.

I showed the video to Rob, he was quite tickled to see someone being pulled in a cart by their DOG and not a pony :D

  9. Awesome, Red! Penny is doing so great!

Red I have a question about the carts... do they have any "breaks" on them? Like what if something happened to make a dog take off? How would you stop them?

  11. I'm going to assume it doesn't. Simply because her feet are so close to the ground, she can put them down and stop the cart herself with her feet (think Flintstones style).

This is just from the looks of it, though.

  12. xpaenx, you better have good control. I could most likely stop her with the Halti, but she and both boyz have been well schooled on what acceptable reactions to strong distraction are. They will look, but are not allowed to lunge, bark, or give a tight lead.

She also knows WHOA means STOP. So I rely on desensitization, good training, and good equipment.

    :D

Red, that is the most awesome thing ever, and such a great way to promote the varying abilities of rotties! She looks like she really enjoys the cart!

That is amazing! You can tell Penny's mind set too, from when she's about to pull. How neat!

In a pinch, she can stop Flintstones style. :)

I really liked the video and she looks very confident and happy to do her job.
