I'm not sure if this should go in health, or training, or whatever, so I'll put it here.

Alexa has major anxiety issues thanks to my jerk of a brother, and whenever a some guy friend's of my boyfriend's come over, she pees, randomly. Is she scared, or what's going on? I know a lot of puppies do this when they get excited, but isn't 2 a little old for that now? Any way I can help prevent it or do I just have to deal with it? Cuz it's getting kind of a pain to clean up, and a pain when she actually pees on the guys themselves.

Anxiety can definitely cause them to pee. First thing to do is to never get upset with her for doing it because that only makes it worse.

I would remove her from the situations that cause it and then work on gradually getting her over the anxiety issues. Have the guys feed her treats or play with her. Be sure they are non-threatening.

If you can give more specifics -- what do the guys do? What does she do other than peeing? How many guys? How is she with your bf?

Also taking her outside to pee before they come over might help, but there can still be some peeing afterwards. Just not as much if her bladder isn't full.

The guys just play with her. They come over, she gets all excited, runs and jumps on them and starts peeing. Just two guys, one who comes over a lot, and when he comes alone, she doesn't do this, so I'm pretty sure it's the other that's bothering her.

She's fine with my boyfriend.

She hates my boyfriend's roommate too. When he came home once, she jumped at him and pushed him back, and when the guys went to play hockey, she was all excited to see everyone and then when he showed up and I said hi, as soon as Alexa heard his voice she stopped dead and went the other way. And then just the other day he came home, she got up to go greet whoever it was, and as soon as he said something, she came running back to me. Then when he was sitting and talking with me, I could feel her start to growl, and she was like hyperventilating. My boyfriend thinks it's because of his roommates tattoos. They're kinda of a funky tribal design and one's a bear and one's a wolf, on his forearms. But I don't understand why she'd be scared of them. She's never really known anyone with tattoos. My boyfriend thinks that maybe she's seeing something in them that we don't, lol.

What kind of dog is she?
It is very important for a doggie to have a stable environment - so if everyone says something else and gives different commands and says yes or no to different things the dog gets very confused... that might be one reason for the peeing.

my dog has nervous/ excited urination.

Over time you just learn to deal with the situations... prevent the worst ones and mitigate the others.

She has a stable environment now, and whenever anyone comes over I always tell them what to do concerning her because her getting confused is what I'm trying to prevent, lol.

I know she has anxiety problems because of my brother and my mom (I wrote a thread on that a little while ago) so I know that doesn't help, but I'm wondering if there's any way I can get her to stop the sudden peeing? It happens whether I take her out or not (I took her out to go potty right before the guys came over in this situation) so I dunno.

How does she act just before and when she is peeing? Does she look excited or jump up on the guys?

Hiya - sorry, I can't find your other thread :( what did your brother and mother do? And how old is she?
Whether it ever stops or not - I'm not sure. From experience I just know that my friends dog always peed when she met my dog... It was only when she met Jack and with no other dogs. It didn't matter if he walked her to my place and her bladder should have been empty or not... It stopped when she was aprox. 1.5 years old.

There's the link to the other thread. It pretty much explains everything me thinks. Alexa is 2.

It sounds very much like submissive urination. Good news is it's fixable, bad news is it's a long slow road. You need to build her confidence back up and it's key to remove her from any situation that is reinforcing her submissiveness.

Take a look on google for submissive urination and you'll find a number of suggested treatment plans, most revolve around removing any emotion from your handling of the dog while building up her confidence, not an easy task.

Good luck! With a little patience she should be fine.

I found your other thread. That really doesn't sound good and I think Alexa is scared and that is her way of showing it. It will take a long time and patience to turn her back into a confident dog and to be honest, if she was my dog I would move out on the spot.... She won't ever be happy in the company of your brother. She will never forget what happened. I feel quite sorry for her... :(
