Ruby has taken to peeing right on the back step every morning when she sees us, or when we let her in at night after we get home from work - is this an excitement thing from not seeing us for a while, combined with a habit she has formed?

Also, she often pees inside right up near the back door - is this her way of telling us she would have gone outside to pee if the door had been open? She is getting better with her potty training but not 100% yet.

She still drinks VERY large amounts of water - quite obviously large amounts. She had a urinary tract infection when she was 11 weeks old - I am wondering if some of these habits are stemming from that infection perhaps not being properly cured. Should I take another urine sample to the vet?

My puppy also pees on the step every morning and every evening. In the morning it is because she is excited to see my other dog and in the evening it happens when my mother comes home from work...so I would say that it is most likely because she is very excited. This also happened with my other 2 dogs and I found that it tended to stop once they learned to hold it and once there temperament began to calm down a little.

Peeing by the door probably means that she would have went out if the door was open . My puppy also does this. She will go next to the door about 5 seconds before she has to pee and if we don't get there in time she just goes.

It does sound like excitement to me. How to you greet Ruby? Do you act glad/excited to see her? Act like it's not a big deal, just open the door and let her in. If you make a fuss about seeing her, she'll get more and more excited.

I agree with Suzy about the peeing by the door. Ruby knows she should go out, but she doesn't know how to ask. She'll figure it out in time, but in the meantime, keep a close eye on her if she heads that direction.
