Lucy got spayed on Monday, we picked her up on Tuesday and have noticed she's been peeing a lot more. There was even a time where in a period of no more than 5 minutes, she peed twice. I suppose she could have been faking me out one of those times because she wanted to go inside, but I don't know, usually when she's faking it it's so obvious because she does it really quickly. But I'm pretty convinced she really did pee twice.

It also seems like it's taking her longer to pee, too. When my mom let her outside this morning she said that was the longest she's ever seen a dog pee.

Usually if she pees, there is no way she would go an hour later. But I probably could take her out every hour now, and she would go.

Is this normal for a dog who's just been spayed?

Typical sign of a urinary tract infection which can happen after spaying. Take a fresh urine sample to your vet in a clean and dry container so they can test it. Bring your dog along too, in case they need to see her.

If there's any possibility of a UTI, the vet will probably just give you antibiotics anyhow...just to cover the possibility. They often don't fuss with a urinalysis. Wasn't she given any after the spay? Also, it can be just on account of the irritation and inflamation of the surgery itself. The bladder is close in proximately to the uterus. And hormonal changes can affect this till things level out. But I would check with your vet. Hope she does better soon.

That's what my mom was thinking.

Everything seems to be back to normal now, so I guess it wasn't anything to worry about?
