I'm going to California in December and I don't want to board my cats(never do). I leave a bowl of food out and I have a big watering thing, so during the time that I'm gone, the gal who is going to come out will come over 2-3 times to feed them, clean the litter box, and get the mail.

She said she'd be happy to do it, but she lives about 30 minutes away.

I was wondering, how much is reasonable to pay her to come out 2 times? What about 3?

I was thinking $50-60. Is this not enough/too much/sounds right?

Thanks!

I think its very reasonable, lol.

They have a lot to do when they are there... feed the pets, walk the dogs, clean the litter box, play with everyone, change wee wee pads, etc.... and most importantly when we come home everyone is happy, healthy, and well adjusted.

They come 4 times per day but never only stay 30 minutes, they almost always stay much longer.

I wish I could hire a pet sitter. There has been a few times when it would had been a life saver.

Ruckus would eat them though. I just know it. Those of you that do not have "attack" (that's what Ruckus thinks he is) are very lucky.

when i do pet sitting it depends on the animals, but for just cats...

i charge $10 a visit for up to 2 cats, $3 per additional cat within a 15 mile radius, after that its additional milage ontop (i generally take the current gas price divide it between my average milage and round up to the nearest 5 cents, so right now that would be...2.80/15=.18 = .20 cents per mile after the initial 15 (my car gets 15 to the gal)

i stay a minimum of 30 mins and that time includes food, litterbox scoop/full clean out, and play/snuggle time if the kitties want it.

my fees are actually on the low end of average for my area.

Can you build a relationship with one, or will he attack anyone?

Elle is really not good with new people at all but we have built a relationship with this sitter and she knows how to handle her, we hid nothing from her when she first came. Elle also knows the owners of the business, so the one time something came up while we were gone and they needed to bring in a new sitter, the owners went there a few times with the girl and did the introductions and everything... everything went smoothly.
