Hi all, last Friday night I noticed that Spalding was licking his paw, I did not give much attention because he does it sometimes. Yesterday in the afternoon I caught him licking it again and I decided to see what was going on. I noticed that the bottom of his paw was red. THere is no cuts, just red, I thought it would be some kind of irritation, so I decided to put some cream for mosquito bites I have at home. This morning, I noticed that the area is swollen and red. I read some articles on this forum, and washed the area with water and salt, put a sock on his paw, but he still trying to bite the area. I've just washed the area with soap and I left the area with no socks. Is it a good idea?

My husband went to a pet store, and people there told him it would be food allergy. I've been feeding him Science Diet puppy large breed < 1year for 4 months and this is the 1st time I heard that his food would be causing it. Do you think so?!

Tomorrow I will take him to the vet to see what is going on...I am so worried, he's been sleeping a lot today, and I don't know what to do.... He's played with my husband, run around the house; however, it is noticeable that is bothering him.

Any help is appreciated. It is really sad to see my little one suffering.

Thanks.

You haven't said what part of the paw, is it in the webbing, under the toes, or on top? Is the red area concentrated our wide spread..does the area look granulated or bumpy or moist and raw. A pic would help.Could be many different things from a weed seed that has worked its' way in, an insect bite (spider this time of year) or an allergy. Bitter apple comes in a gel and is good for getting an animal to leave an area alone but that only solves one part of the problem. If it doesn't clear soon i would say vet trip. To see if it is an allergy a dose of benedryl wouldn't hurt.

Redness behind his toes

Hi, thanks for getting back to me.

The redness and swollen area is under the paw, behind the toes, and now between his toes. It is swelling more and more. I will take a picture and send as soon as I have it.

I will be taking him to the vet today.

I will keep you posted... Thank you so much!
