well, something happened and now im left with a huge hole in my bedroom wall. its about 6 inches horizontally and about 3.5" vertically. this is drywall right? lol i have tried to look it up and found several different ways to fix up this hole.
would this be something that i would have to cut out, reinforce, put on spackling compound, and then repaint?

that sounds like something that i would only do once we decided to repaint for w/e reason. its now just behind a random poster.

Yes. cut out a square with good edges, get some 1x2 or 1x4 pieces of wood. Put those pieces of wood inside the hole and screw one edge to the "good" drywall and leave one edge exposed in the hole. Get yourself a piece of drywall to fit the hole (bargain bin at menards for a buck or less), and some fiber mesh and joint compound.

Screw the drywall cut to size on the exposed wood in the hole. Reinforce the seems with the fiber mesh tape and then do the finish mudding. It will take a couple coats with sanding, then by some texture in a can if your walls are textured. Be sure to spray some of that away from the wall cause sometimes it comes out prett clumpy at first. Then paint when dry

I would also agree with cutting a piece and fixing it that way. My son had a hole in his bedroom wall at our old house...I noticed it on a day that we were showing the house when it was for sale!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:yikes:

The house we bought a few months ago had these weird doll faces with stuff knit around them hanging in peculiar spots. It was for sale to close an estate, I figured an older person lived there, had some different tastes in decorating. Well, there's holes behind them. So i'm getting good at patching them up.

It's amazing some of the things you find after buying a house. That was one of the nice things about moving into a brand new house.....no weird stuff this time.
