What can cause a dog to get pancreatis? My min pin might have it, he is at the vet right now, they are going to do blood work on him and see if it is that. They think it is. He is not eatting, when he goes to the bath room it's per blood, he's sick.... So they are keeping him over night and should have blood work down on him in a few hours, i just want to know what can cause pancreatis they told me some human foods can.

I hope it's not too serious for your poor baby ! As to the foods , mainly chocolate, grapes and raisons. Being a small breed , it wouldn't take much of anything to cause a problem , Let us know !!!

Too much fat can cause it. Gunnar got it when he was a pup from me feeding him the hard fat I was trimming off of a rib roast, and then my wife put bacon grease on his kibble. He was a hurtin little boy for a couple days. Lesson learned, no more hard fat and no bacon grease.

The vet's saying he's doing better he's stopped throwing up but he still has some runs tho. They put him on baby food today i never heard of doing that with a dog but i guess its ok. He will be coming home tomorrow.

Cat food is bad for your dog as well.

Baby food works great with recovering animals. Keep it to the puree type meat products. It's easy on the stomach, very palatable and smells enough to stimulate a poor appetite. I also use Tripet, its a canned green tripe. I find dogs will eat the tripe (which smells ghastly ) with the poorest of appetites. It is also good for their digestive tract as in contains digestive enzymes from the cows stomach.

Good luck with your boy:)

Yes, he can still get it. Parvo acts FAST though, he'll be real down and out within a couple days. His stools will be bloody and real stinky (not that regular stools don't stink too, but this is real bad).

No he has not had any x rays, he has had blood tests, he should be able to come home tomorrow i hope. He poo was watery and bloody. I know they did a blood test to see if he had pancreatis and he did not, but do they do blood test to see if they have parvo? because im thinking of asking about that *to the vet*.

Have your vets done a repeat blood panel for pancreatitis? It isn't uncommon for the enzymes to take longer for the panel to show the elevated enzyme levels. A good diet for an upset tummy is boiled rice and chicken or hamburger. I prefer chicken because hamburger is fattier and can be tougher on the digestive system. I personally would stay away from baby foods because foreign foods (foods that a dogs digestive tract is not accustomed with) can cause unnessasary stomach upset aswell. I hope that your pup is feeling better soon.
