So, as I wrote in my other thread, my dogs both have to have their rabies vaccinations AGAIN.
Lacey had hers on 7/31 and Lestat on like 05/06 this year. They're going back on 09/08 to have them done again so they are compliant for travel, and ti fill out the USDA paperwork etc.

I'm bringing in their previous paperwork anyway, though I don't think there is anything we can do about giving them more vaccinations. I wanted to avoid this but I can't.

I don't over-vaccinate usually, they get the DHLPP shots as puppies, the boosters, and once at a year later, and then no more. So I'm not sure what to think about having a 2nd rabies shot so close together, especially for Lacey?

Anyone have any ideas on this, how detrimental it might be?

Ugh. :mad::mad::mad:

I don't think I'd be willing to do that on my dogs.
Can the vet print out a new copy of the rabies certificate with the chip number on it?

That's what I"m hoping for, that bringing in their records and having the mil vet scan them they'll just issue new certificates - but I don't know.

I am not thrilled about double dosing them, but if I don't have an alternative well, what can I do? According to the dips at USDA, if they aren't vaccinated to that specific, they aren't going. We are already pushing the time limits since I'm moving very soon, like within the next 30 days or so, luckily I'm spending a week or two in AZ with my folks so that will give me the time for the shots to be in effect for the 30 day rule.

Any links for the curious as to why that many rabies shots are harmful?

I'm looking for something more solid than the typical internet horror stories right now.

Dr. Ronald D. Schultz, Ph.D..- "Annual revaccination provides no benefit and may increase the risk for adverse reactions. The percentage of vaccinated animals (those vaccinated only as puppies) protected from clinical disease after challenge with canine distemper virus, canine parvovirus and canine adenovirus in the study was greater than 95%." Current and Future Canine and Feline Vaccination Programs
TWO VACCINE PETITIONS:
Rabies is the only vaccine that is mandated by law, yet lawmakers do not understand how vaccines work and that "more" (i.e. yearly) is not better and can actually be harmful to pets. Anti dog legislation is rampant in this country, and the only way to stop it is for ALL pet owners to band together and contact legislators, both local and outside their area.
Pet vaccination warning. Severe adverse reaction to immunization

Yeah I probably failed. It sounds very similar to the whole idea on not vaccinating your children kind of thing...which I'm against.

However, I cannot fathom that getting a double dose of the same vaccination for sake of the USDA is healthy.

Well it's not that they shouldn't be vaccinated. There's a difference between vaccinating and overvaccinating, in dogs and in humans.

What I was wondering though in my post was if the vet that did the rabies vaccines on them puts the chip numbers in the computer, would they be able to reprint the certificates with the number on them? I honestly don't know if they can - I don't know how the computer program they use works - but it would be worth asking.

I know if they use Cornerstone they can. I've reprinted a rabies certificate for Gavroche before so it had his chip number on it. Granted I didn't need it for travel, but still, I don't see it being a problem. They DID have their shots, after all.

I don't know, I can call and ask I suppose - I'm taking them to a different clinic for the rest of it but I can call tomorrow and ask if they'll update the rabies certs for me since I have the original paperwork.

Well it's weird that they won't accept a rabies certificate as proof of vaccination (I mean, that's kinda what it's for), but it's not like your dog is going to up and die from two shots spaced apart by a month (and much more in Lestat's case).

Can they? Sure, but they can also get run over a lot easier (and much more likely). I'd press them to accept the paperwork then vaccinate if they just refuse. You can try calling the USDA too and see what they say.

Anyhow, if you've lost the paperwork (which I'm a bit confused on cause it makes you sound like you have it but other comments make it sound like you don't), if the vet uses a computer system then most of them can pull the rabies tag and reprint a certificate if they're doing their due diligence in recording numbers.

I have both of their shot records original paperwork. The USDA office said 100% they had to be revaccinated because they were not microchipped prior to receiving said vaccinations. They're about as much help as a nail without a hammer. Typical government office.
Lacey and Lestat were both seen at civilian vet clinics here in town, 2 different clinics because Lestat came with his paperwork from their vet. I used a different vet for Lacey - and now will be using a 3rd (military) vet to do my USDA paperwork and such.
I am going to try calling the 2 vets they've seen so far to see if they'll issue new rabies certs for them. Failing that, I'm bringing in their paperwork from those vets to my military vets office because they requested it anyway.
