Payed 1200 for a female that had Retinal folds. Goes to show that health isnt always related to bybs. Health problems do come from the great lines too!

The last pup I looked at buying was 2k. The pup was well worth it!
A field bred and trialed dog went for over 100k last year.

10 years ago I paid $2500 for a horse. His values increased by about $10,000! Best investment ever made.lol (of course I would never sell him)

I didn't pay anything for either of my dogs, but my parents paid $850 for a Norweigan Elkhound, he was our family pet.

Jasmine was $1000 from a breeder. No genetic problems (yet).
Indy was $250 from breed rescue. Indy most likely is from a BYB. His hip dysplasia was diagnosed at 7 months.

Probably the FISH, actually. Setting up a big tank cost about $2000, and we had 4-5 big tanks.

I didn't pay for any of the dogs (I would've paid for Tango, but she was given to us) but I'm pretty sure the most expensive dog (sounds so weird to put a price on them..) we ever had was our first Rottweiler who was around $250. My next dog is costing me $1500 though, from a very responsible breeder.

My Dad paid $200 in 1949 for the pick of the litter from the number one breeder of Goldens at that time.( in Conn )... I wonder what that would be today , as the price of a car now would have bought a mansion then. The only Goldens I bought were $350 and $400 back in the '70s..... all the rest were home whelped with pick of the litter for stud or b*tch fees. Chip was a " rescue " .... but a son of my Bubba. My line is now gone.

Leslie, that may not be the case.... though I only bred to OFA registered B*tches or Studs , 3 of the over 100 pups ( over a 40 yr span ) came up with HD . One definately came from fast growth due to adult food too young and over working the hip joints .... the others ( my Chip ) and one in Florida were diagnosed when young and could have been a throw back or because of food and activity. I'll never know. When buying a pup the testing proves that they care about the off spring, but it does not guarantee anything. I did , in my contracts , offer a return policy for any health issues. Two were not that bad and they choice to keep the pup and treat with meds... Chip's owners went all the way and spent $1600 on surgery etc..... and yet 4 years later they gave him up to rescue because they moved and didn't want a hyper dog !!! Lord.... he has had no issues here, health or otherwise !!! Go figure... their loss, my gain !!! Everynight ,I thank my lucky stars !!
