I recently switched Holly from Grain-Free Canidae, to Orijen. It's a lot higher in protein so I switched her over gradually for a week, doing about half and half first and gradually fading out the Canidae. It's been a few weeks now that she's on it, and she has been pooping a LOT more. Maybe like 4-5 times a day. She was pooping once in the morning and once at night with Canidae. Did I not switch her over gradually enough? Or is Orijen just not right for her?

It has alot more protien so her body might still need time to get used to it.

When switching you should start with like ONE peice of the new kibble in with the old food at first. And the next feeding go with 2.. Then the next go with 4.. Then 8.. etc etc. So half and half might have been too much.

My dog is on orijen. We switched from wellness and wellness had grains and she pooped alot more at first too but then got back to normal.

You might also be feeding too much of it, higher protein foods often have higher calorie contents too, you'd have to find out how many calories are in it per cup compared to the canidae.

She is getting a cup and a half in the morning and a cup and a half in the evening. It says 3 cups on the back of the bag for an active adult dog. She is a 2 yr old 65lbs lab that is getting a 20 min walk in the morning and 40 min walk in the evening. She has been swimming a lot all summer and I make sure to mix play fetch atleast 15 minutes a day. She has loads of energy and will sprint around the yard a few times. I can't say much about the shedding with Orijen because she is shedding out her summer coat now anyways. At first I actually started with half a cup of Orijen/1 cup of Canidae morning and evenings for the first few days and then moved on to half and half.

She is actually getting more Orijen than Canidae. On Canidae it said 2 cups a day for an active adult dog so she was getting one cup in the AM and one in the PM. She doesn't seem to have gained weight, even though it has only been a few weeks.

I'm not used to "big dog" feeding amounts, but that seems like a LOT of Orijen. Meg is normally on it, and she is highly active and 36/37 lbs. She gets 1/3 cup am and pm. I'll have to look and see what the "recommended" amount for her is. I've never bothered, just fed her based on how she looks.

The guidelines on the bag are just that--guidelines. I'd try cutting back the amount you feed and see if that helps. Juno had liquidy poops until it dawned on me that I might be feeding her too much, so when I decreased how much I fed her, her poops firmed up and she wasn't pooping as often. If you're feeding too much, you'll notice the result in her poop before you notice any weight gain.
