Do you feel that this would be safe for a dog to ride in?
Would you do the same setup on your car/truck?

Myself I would say yes and no.

Yes because the crate is securely bolted to the frame (Grade 8 bolts 3 each side) although I would use a all steel one instead. and it would be summertime use only.

No because if you got rear ended it would be the point of impact and the first thing to be crushed. If there was a way to strengthen it up way more and put the bumper before the crate then I could see how it could be safer.

What does everyone else think?

No for two reasons.

1. Debris could come up and injure the dog.

2. The dog has NO protection in a collision... a crate would fall apart on impact.

Nope.

I wont let my dogs ride on the back of a truck, in a crate, with the crate sicurly attached. I'm way to parinoid. My girls ride in the car/truck/van with me, just to be safe.

No, I don't think I'd use that, for the reasons mentioned above.

I prefer my dogs to ride in a crate inside the car, but I would not be opposed to letting them ride in a crate secured in the back of a truck. At least there you have bumpers and stuff to protect. Of course the weather has to be right too.... In TX you can't do that setup in the summer, asking a dog to ride in a crate in 105 degree weather would be cruel.

I wouldn't do it either. I would have my dogs in the back of a pick up WITHOUT a crate before I let them ride in that concoction. At least in the back of a truck during a crash, they would have the opportunity to be thrown clear instead of trapped and crushed.

Not only that, I would have them ride in the jeep w/o a crate instead of that thing too.

Just the thought of a dog in that thing makes me shiver

:yikes: Heck no!

That being said, I would rather crate my dog inside a car, in a soft crate or plastic crate. I would NEVER use metal. It is too easy for metal to mangle/twist and impale a dog. I have never heard of a dog being impaled on broken plastic from a plastic crate.

I would never do that either, for the reasons already stated by others: Flying debris, fumes, and no protection in the event of a crash. Even a minor fender-bender would be enough to killl or seriously injure a dog in a crate attached to the outside of a vehicle!

To the list of objections given by others I would also add resulting wind due to speed of the vehicle, inadequate protection from weather, and stress to the dog caused by isolation and road noise. If the person pictured parked and left the vehicle with the dog alone in the crate, there's also possibility of the dog being stolen if it's a purebred or a particularly nice looking mixed breed.

I would never put my dog in that thing either. On top off everything listed up, just looking at it lets you know it has bad idea written all over it!

now, if the person had a pickup truck, and it was bolted into the bed of the truck right up against the cab, I'd be ok with that. But I still think the dogs should just ride inside the vehicle.
