seems to be more of a problem for men than women, but what age do you feel is ok to have your daughter's ears pierced. I wanted Stef's done at age one, my hubby had a mild cardiac arrest (how could I want to put holes in our child??? lol) so she waited until she was 13. my cousin has this same argument going on (her daugher is 2) soooo...

is your daughter's ears pierced? if so, what age did you find it acceptable?

I just wanted some feedback before I get back to her. and I was suddenly curious cause I think pierced ears are normal....guess some peeps don't. :) now this is just one earring in each ear...LOL....I'm not into body piercings or mega earrings on children.

I waited until she was 6 and asked me to have it done. After all it is her body. I wanted to do it sooner but thought what if she never wanted it done.
It is a touchy subject and I thought she ought to decide if that was something she wanted.

My parents got my ears peirced when I was three. Sadly, I'm not really an earring person anymore, but the holes have never closed. Personally I don't think its a big deal to get it done young. Didn't bother me at all.

I HATE to see all those little babies and girls getting there ears pierced and then they cry there heads off after it is done  :(

It is so sad to see them go through that!

I think it should be the girls choise....when the girls feels she can handle it and wants to have it done. :)

I got my ears peirced 2 years ago...at age 11. And would not have done it any sooner or later.

I personally don't think a one year old childs ears should be pierced. Why? What's the purpose of piercing a childs ears so young? I definately think that the child be old enough to make the decision themselves.

All the little girls I know, who was born in the U.S., have had their ears pierced by their pediatric doctor at around 3 - 6 months old. If in doubt, you can discuss it with the doctor, and follow his/her recommendation. I would definitely take the baby to the doctor rather than to any other ear-piercing places. With proper care, the wounds would heal in no times, and the baby would not have any discomforts.

I didn't have my ears pierced until I was 22! My parents didn't think I should, but it was something I wanted - so after much discussion to convince them, they finally let me :D

I think 13 is a special age .......... sort of like a rite of passing into the teens .

I am very much against piercing baby's ears. If watched it be done at the mall dozens of times; its horrible. They have to hold the baby down and then shoot them in. and they scream, and hate it. Some pick at their ears even weeks after and try to pluck them out imo. A couple of times they only had one lady working, so they didn't do both ears at the same time... I really don't see the point in that at all. :( They have no way of understanding it or seeing it, and I've watched parents try to change the earings in a young child and its a fight everytime - until they're older.

I think when a child is old enough to ask - or agree to it if the parent presents the idea then it is okay. Even if they don't fully understand the degree of it all, they asked and showed some interest. I've seen 3s and 4s do and it doesn't bother me. I went with a girl at my day care that I also babysat. Of course it upsets them when it happens, but then they walk around and flaunt it - too cute.

All children are different, and I don't think anyone can say there is a "set" age for a child's ears to be peirced... :) JMO :D

YAK YAK YAK YAK YAK YAK YAK YAK YAK!!

No - I do NOT like it.... People should be able to choose if they want holes punching in their body for themselves.

I have piercings, I chose what I wanted doing, my kids will have the same freedom of choice.

It's your decision at the end of the day.... I personally think it looks blurgh.

Hi debi,

Where I live baby girls have their ears pierced practically before they get their bums skelped. People looked at Hania in confusion when she was just a baby because she looked so girly but had no earrings, so she must be a boy.

I chose not to have her ears pierced at that age and have resisted my partners wishes to have it done until now because that when i got my ears pierced at about 10 or so it was a sort of rite of passage. My Mum took me to a Robin Hood store and had it done for my birthday. I felt so grown up and it was a special day and a memory of my mother that I cherish.

I want Hania to feel that way too. I want it to be something we do together when she is old enough to appreciate it. So my 5 yo doesn't have her ears pierced yet not because I don't agree with doing it so young but because I am a sentimental idiot. :)

I had my ears pierced on my sixth birthday. I myself would wait until a child is at least 5-6 years old, and only do it if the child wants it. I can vividly remember my ears being pierced, and am still very proud that I did not cry. :)

I don't have a problem with babies and toddlers having their ears pierced; it's just not my personal preference.

My sis-in-law had my little niece's ears pierced when she was about a year old. It was for an odd reason. My niece was very large for her age (hubby's family grows 'em big), and her hair was fairly short. My SIL got tired of everyone telling her daughter what a "cute little boy" she was. SIL was afraid it would give my niece an identity complex, LOL.

I personally would wait until she is older and actually asks for earrings and when she is old enough to take care of them herself.

Mine were done at 6 months old I believe.

I am happy, I have tried to do other piercings since and they always get infected and close. At 6 months my mother was responsible for taking care of them:) And since they are still in I guess she did a good job:p

My mom had my ears pierced when I was 2 years old. I still have the holes and I always wear earrings. My daughter is 3. She's never had her ears pierced and I've never considered it. I just can't see poking holes in her ears and hearing her cry for no reason. I mean after all at that age it's the parents choice. The child cannot say if they do or don't want it done. Yeah she'll look cute, but she's already beautiful. I think it should be her choice. If she wants it done when she's older, that's fine. But right now, I think since she can't make the choice herself, it's not the right time.

But this applies to my daughter. It really depends on what the parents think for each individual child.

I dislike seeing little girls (say, under 13) with pierced ears. It looks cheap. The underlying reason we wear jewelry is to make us more sexually attractive, either through straightforward phsyical appearance or through the messages jewelry sends about our financial or sexual success - either you make enough money to afford the Rolex, or you're hot enough to bed someone who does. That's a nasty sort of message to send with your pre-adolescent daughter.

I had mine done at 11 and that was only after a ton of begging. My parents wanted to wait until I was old enough to not loose hair ties and clips before giving me responsibility of cleaning my ears and not loosing earrings. I had them done again at 12 because the first ones were done in the middle of soccer season and you couldn't wear ANY jewlery on the field and the first set closed up during a game. So after the season was over I went and had them re-pierced. I got my second set at 18 and on the sly...parents didn't find out until three or four months after. Then the only consoliation was "well, it's not a tattoo".

I wouldn't do a young kids because of the risk of them yanking them out or swallowing the earrings. Once they are old enough to ask and understand what all is involved, then I'll take them.

I got mine done at 6 or 7 and again at 8 or 9. I wouldn't ever pierce my baby's ears without them being old enough to make the decision themselves.

I had my ears pierced when I was 3 or 4. By the time I was 7 or 8, I stopped wearing earrings, lol. The holes are still open, I supose I could wear them if I really wanted to.

Jenna got her ears pierced when she was 4. She wears tiny earrings. I don't let her wear the dangle kind yet.

I got mine when I was 5 or 6. I had a boy cut hair cut in Kindergarten and everyone thought I was a boy.. hence the reason I got my ears pierced.
